Meet the new LASIEC commissioners

laisecThe Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday June 29, 2016, swore in the new members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), led by the former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Philips.
During the swearing in at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, the Governor stated that all the members of the commission were appointed based on their track records of achievements and the great value they brought to the state government.
He enjoined them to be transparent and fair to all parties concerned without giving undue advantage to one party over the other because his administration places high premium on the rule of law.
Ambode, therefore, assured that the executive arm of government would not do anything to directly or indirectly interfere in the affairs of the commission.
In her remarks, the leader of the team and the immediate past Chief Justice of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Philips thanked the Governor for the confidence and trust reposed in her and other members.
She, therefore assured Lagosians that the commission would do all its best to ensure credible and peaceful election in the forthcoming local government election.
In her words, “My tenure would witness the transformation of LASIEC to a great institution that would be emulated by other commissions, and I believe more in action than in words. People would witness the transformation as time goes on.
“We shall try all our possible best to achieve our aim and to create good image for the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission,” she stated.
Members of the commission are: Justice Ayotunde Philips (Chairman); Dr. Bunmi Omosehundemi, Mr. Lateef Raji; Mrs. Toyin Famakinwa; Mr. Olusegun Ayedun; with Mr. Olumide Lawal as the Permanent Secretary.
Dignitaries present at the occasion were, Mr. Samuel Ojo, (Chief of Staff); Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice George; the publisher of Oriwu Sun, Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, and other invitees.
