Bisiriyu Atunrase (Bisi Onilu), Ikorodu’s foremost talented drummer dies at 97

The head of the drummers association in Ikorodu, Chief Bisiriyu Atunrase, who piloted traditional drummers in this part of Lagos State for several decades, finally answered the Almighty’s call on Wednesday, January 2017 at the outstanding age of 97.

The veteran and versatile drummer, during his lifetime, was the favourite of some prominent Ikorodu sons and daughters such as the late Oba S.A Oyefusi, Alhaja Jarinat Facus, Alhaja Jeni Alowonle, Chief Nurudeen Alowonle, Chief B.O. Benson, (SAN), etc. He also recorded an album for the late Baba Adinni of Ikorodu, Alhaji Lamidi Dawodu Olowosago, father of the Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper, Chief Monzor Olowosago.

He inherited the talent of drumming from his late father, Pa Olayinka Atunrashe and excelled to become a highly respected and talented musical artist among his colleagues. He has since been buried according to muslim rites. He is survived by many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Members of the Drummer Association paid their last respects to this great drummer during his burial and believe he has left a great legacy for the future.
