Tutor-General Olaniyi Gbemi celebrates hardworking, dedicated teaching, and non-teaching staff

Education District II on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, during one of its programmes tagged: “Celebration of Success”, bestowed various awards on hardworking, dedicated principals teachers and others at this year’s 11th Annual Merit Award ceremony, which took place at SUBEB Hall, Maryland, Lagos.

While welcoming the people to the event before the award presentation, the chief host of the ceremony, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mr. Olaniyi Yinka Gbemi, disclosed that the ceremony was organized in order to reward diligence, hardwork, dedication and commitment amongst school administrators of various schools under the district and the district staff as well.

He also affirmed that Lagos State Education District II has remained the best district in the state having produced the current best Principal in Nigeria, best school and the best student in WAEC.

According to him, the great achievements recorded by the District in recent times were made possible through the diligence and dedication of all stakeholders in the schools under the district as well as staff of the district; hence, the need to reward them for making them proud.

Mr. Olaniyi Yinka said that the honours being bestowed on hardworking staff had continued to prompt them to achieve more for the district. He commended the Lagos state government for its efforts at putting education in the state at a better pedestal.

The Tutor-General was full of praise for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s governmental initiative and adequate education monitoring function being performed by the Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule.

Meanwhile, while speaking, the SUBEB Chairman in Lagos State, Dr. Ganiyu Sopeyin, described the ceremony as a good motivation for staff and a sort of encouragement for those who may not be recognized at the event. Also, the father of the ceremony and its Chairman, Hon. Babajimi Benson and Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade respectively, have commended the teaching and non-teaching staff in Ikorodu for always making the division proud.

The two of them enjoined the Vice principals, Principals and teachers in Ikorodu division to continue to impart qualitative education on the students. They stated this through their representatives at the ceremony, Mr. Kunle Olanbiwonnu and Mr. Shoneye Sampson.

The Best Principal of the district, Mr. John Abiodun from Odogunyan Senior Grammar school said that his emergence as the best principal was by the grace of God, quality leadership and team work through the supports of the school staff and good regulation from the district.

He promised to continue to do more in uplifting standard of education in the school. He lauded Governor Ambode’s sustained attention on education and the huge investment he had already made in the sector. He said that was responsible for the successes being recorded in education.

The first award was given to the Best Student in the West African Examination Council of year 2016, Miss Oluwadamilare Caroline Omolara, a student of Keme Balogun Senior Grammar School, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, who had nine distinctions in her exams.

In the Best School category, Government Junior Model College, Ikorodu, emerged in the first position in the Junior Category while Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, clinched the first position in the Senior Category.

In the Best Teachers’ category, Mr. Akindele Adesola from Odogunyan Junior Grammar School, Ikorodu won the first position in the Junior Category, while Mrs. Elusakin Iyabode Agnes from Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, clinched the first position in the senior category.

Also, while Mrs. Dina Foluso from Imota community Junior School, Ikorodu clinched the first positon in the Best Head of Department, Junior Category, Mr. Sodipe Adewale from Ipakodo Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu, won the first position in the senior category.

Oseni Jumai Dolapo from Civil Service Junior Model College, Igbogbo, in Ikorodu division, got an award as the Best Student in Junior school BECE 2016. Best Vice-Principal in the Junior category went to Mr. Bello Akeem from Lagos State Junior Model College, Igbo-Okuta, and in the Senior category was Mrs. Akinwunmi Olawunmi from Ayangbure Senior High School, Ikorodu.

In the Best Principal, Junior Category, Mrs. Adelegan Sarat from Lagos State Civil Service Model College (Junior), Igbogbo, won the first position while Mr. John Abiodun from Odogunyan Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu, won the first position in the senior category. Bello Abdul Roquib Ayomide from Gbagada Senior Grammar School won the award for the Best Overall Student in Science 2016 in the senior category.

Other awards of the day included the Special District Award for Diligence and Dedication during which the district staff got various recognitions for their services. Secretaries, non-teaching staff of various schools, drivers and guards from the Junior to the Senior category were also honoured at the event.

The dignitaries present at the event presented the award certificates and prizes to all the recipients. They included Oba of Ketu, HRM Oba Isiaka Balogun Oyero; representative of the Permanent Secretary, Teachers’ Establishment and Pension Office, Mrs. Foluso Ajimoti; Mrs. Adenike Ajayi, represented TG/PS Education District IV; Mrs. Olabimpe Carena; Board members of SUBEB; Mrs. Odunsi Titus, represented TG/PS Education District III, among others.
