he man came into politics during the Covid-19 crisis, in a precarious time around the world. Senator Mukhail Tokunbo Abiru’s name will no doubt ring a bell to, not only people of Ikorodu division, but to the entire people of the Lagos East Senatorial district, comprising of Epe, Ikorodu, Shomolu, Eti-Osa, and 16 local government councils of Lagos State.
Before the man came into the political sphere, he was one time Lagos State Commissioner for Finance and also served as Managing Director of Skye Bank, now known as Polaris Bank. While in the corporate world, this brilliant gentleman was passionate about his people of Ikorodu division. He has been extending kindness to his people in many forms; especially during the Covid-19 crisis of the early 2020 when he gave palliatives and cash incentives to vulnerable people. Senator Abiru did all these under low key and never made noise about his generosity nor craves media attention.
So, when the man decided to join politics, it was easier for the people to embrace him overwhelmingly. Ever since he won the seat in the National Assembly, he has never disappointed his people. In the last 24 months he resumed duties, Senator Tokunbo Abiru has dazzled people with numerous projects, some of which are covered in this edition. There is no doubt he is campaigning for a re-election into the senate, the people he represents would vote massively for him, after he has littered their community with many development projects.
This brilliant gentleman is full of ideas and has a lot for his people. In the course of this, we are compiling his achievements and development projects in this pullout for the electorates. It is with a great sense of duty and responsibility that I write to solicit your kind support for my re-election as the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the 2023 General elections.
Since my assumption as the Senator representing Lagos East. I have strived to provide effective and quality representation with integrity, passion, loyalty and commitment leveraging all the experience, competences and relationships that I have garnered over three (3) decades as an economist, chartered accountant, banker and CEO.
In spite of the limitation of time and personal resources, I have in the last two (2) years as a Senator vigorously pursued the fulfillment of my mandate and the promises I made to our people under three (3) broad pillars:
Under this pillar, I have sponsored about 12 bills and 4 motions, including the high impact Copyright bill 2021(Repeal and Re-enactment) which has been passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and the Franchise Regulation Bill 2022, which has gone through public hearing.
I moved the motion to expedite ongoing rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu road and the effort I made led to the fast-tracking of the rehabilitation of the road from the 22% achievement it was in October, 2021 to its current 80% with its completion expected by December, 2022.
