Oba Waidi Adetayo, Elemuren of Emuren joins his ancestors

Oba Waidi Adetayo, the Elemuren of Emuren has joined his ancestors. Reports reaching us showed that the Oba, who has reigned for almost ten years died at LUTH.

He has since been buried after a fidau prayer at Answal-Islamic society, Ayangburen Road, Ikorodu before being taken to Osugbo in Emuren, it was gathered.

The Oba, who spent predominantly many of his lite times in Ikorodu has a lineage in Emuren from Adebo ruling house. Sources in Emuren told Oriwu Sun that the next oba would come from Owuyo family after which the Oshiyowo family would take over the mantle.

Oba Waidi Adetayo who was seventy five years old before his death would be given final burial after three months.

Emuren people migrated from Ile-Ife under Ajalorun, son of Oduduwa. Ajalorun was one time king of Ile-Ife but was asked to leave Ile- Ife to avert a great calamity through an Ifa divination. Ajalorun did as directed by the Ifa, left Ile-Ife with his family and cronies and first settled at a place called Ijebu-Ife. Those days, it was the oracle that gives direction and predicts prosperity in any new found land.

After settling at Ijebu-lfe, he allowed some of his children to move further to found their own town that was how Emuren came to be, we are the sons of the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife. Our forefathers left Ijebu-lfe on a floating mat, went pass so many places including Oshodi in Lagos, Parafa, Ijede, Oke Eletu, Shashi, Isiwo to the extent that Ijede and Isiwo are still loyal to Emuren, the Elemuren as a matter of right must crown any new king in Ijede and Isiwo.

Emuren happens to be one of the first settlement in Ijebuland, the founder of Emuren came from Ife, the Ajalorun of Ife, Ajalorun first settled in Emuren before founding or settling at Ijebu-lfe, after which other kings started arising in Ijebuland.

Emuren has been in existence since 1445 AD, this is the12th king to be installed in Emuren.

In the whole of Remo Division, Emuren is one of the major Kola-nut producing zones, there is a place here in Emuren called Sabo, it is mostly populated by the Hausas. Pineapples and the leaf used in wrapping food such as moi-moi, pap, rice are produce here. etc.

The Olomimeji are the first two rivers in Emuren, nobody knows their source, they are Orisha water, as duty, there is yearly sacrifice to appease the water; the water has its own shrine; we are appealing to the state government to turn the shrine to a heritage and cultural site; the phenomenon about the water is that unlike most rivers, water dried up in the river during the raining season, but always full to the brim during the dry season. The fish in the river must not be killed. The cognmen of the Emuren people is “Omo Olomimeji, Omo Arubi, Omo Atori, Okan mimu, Okan Aimu, the river could be termed as both male and female, water from the male river is not drinkable, the whole of Emuren drink from the female river.

We now have the Arubi festival, specially for the celebration and worshiping of the Olomimeji, which can also be referred to as the Orisha Oluweri. In Emuren the period of September is for Oro festival, November is time for the Agemo festival, December is the period for Ogun festival with the Jabajaba festival, Jabajaba is the king’s masquerade, very similar to the Orisha Ologede in Lagos, Jabajaba like the Ologede uses dried banana leaves as costume.
