Oba Shotobi installs Jokotex Ogunbiyi as Baale Idafa Odoguloye

Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, on Thursday, March 4, 2021, installed Omoba Jokotex Ogunbiyi Oyeneye as Baale Idafa Odoguloye amidst huge support and acceptance from family members, friends and well-wishers.

The well attended installation ceremony recorded an impressive turnout members of Chief Jokotex’s families (Ogbonyari and Oyeneye families) from Sagamu, Emuren, Imota and Ikorodu, who all had come to drum support for him.

Also in attendance were traditional rulers and chiefs, Baales, traditionalists, eminent dignitaries and residents of Idafa Odoguloye community.

The installation ceremony took off at 1pm with a traditional prayer by Chief Kareem Ore after which two palace aides, supported by some women, led Chief Jokotex to the venue amidst singing and dancing while his family members and guests gave him a standing ovation to honor him.

After briefly moving round to acknowledge greetings and cheers from the gathering, he was led to the high table where he sat on a mat in front of Oba Shotobi after which the monarch asked Chief J. A. Shonubi,  Aro of Ipakodo, and a revered member of the new Baale’s family,  to come out and tell the gathering what they have come to the palace for.

Chief Shonubi briefly told the Kabiyesi that the family had come to present Chief Jokotex for installation as Baale of Idafa Odoguloye and added that his choice for the position enjoys popular support within the family.

With Chief Shonubi’s confirmation of Chief Jokotex for the position, Oba Shotobi presented him cap, beads and other instruments of Office and officially pronounced him as the Baale of Idafa Odoguloye while a deafening shout from the cheering crowd rented the air.

His family members, guests, friends and well-wishers were later invited by the compere, Otunba Gbenga Dosunmu, to  donate money in appreciation of the honour conferred on Chief Jokotex by Oba Shotobi.

Oba Shotobi, while addressing the new Baale shortly after his installation, advised him to use his new position to foster peace, unity and togetherness within his family and carry his family members along in his dealings.

He also urged him to always exercise patience and eschew force and violence during challenging moments.

Also, prior to the installation, Oba Shotobi had told Chief Jokotex that he was only installing him as Baale Idafa Odoguloye and not as Olootu (head) of his family (Ogbonyari Akarigbo).

The palace event was brought to a close by 3.30pm with presentations of Certificate of Appointment as well  as gifts to Chief Jokotex by High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Odofin of Ikorodu, residents of Idafa Odoguloye community and Igbo community respectively and a marathon photograph session after which the celebration train moved to the Ikorodu Town Hall where the new Baale treated his family members, guests and well-wishers to a memorable feast which included sumptuous meals and assorted drinks and local music supplied by Abideen Ajasa Yussuf Olatunji and his Sakara music band.

While speaking briefly at the Town Hall, Chief Jokotex thanked his family members for putting their trust in him and making him a Baale as well as the guests and well-wishers for coming around to support and celebrate with him.

He assured his family and residents of Idafa Odoguloye of using his reign to further enhance the development of the community.

Others at the installation ceremony were Oba Semiudeen Kasali, Adeboruwa of lgbogbo, Chief Jimoh Adetunji Mabogaje (Baba Benard), Olori Omolisa of Ikorodu, Olori Kudirat Shotobi, Arc. Taiwo Kara, wife of Odofin of lkorodu and Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, among others.
