Come Saturday, November 26, 2016, the peaceful town of Igbogbo will explode with pomp and pageantry as it hosts dignitaries from all walks of life and from across the country to celebrate the formal coronations ceremony of their new, Oba HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
On that day, Oba Kasali, together with the entire Igbogbo community will entertain guests at Igbogbo Stadium with great funfare and colours to mark the social aspect of the Oba’s ascension to the throne.
Already, a powerful coronation committee headed by Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola and her deputy, Alhaji M. T. Hamzat (a.k,a HOMAT) has swung into action to organize a befitting ceremony.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is expected to lead various Nigeria dignitaries to the event while His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Shotobi will pilot traditional rulers and chiefs from all over the country to the celebration.
It will be recalled that His Excellency Governor Ambode presented the staff of office to the new Oba on July 25, 2016. Thereafter, the new Kabiyesi went into Ipebi for the traditional three months seclusion which ended on September 22, 2016.
The Igbogbo monarch and his subjects therefore decided to treat the world to the best of their culture and chose no better person than the former Special Adviser to Governor Ambode on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Akinsola, a daughter of the Igbogbo community who is now the acting Commissioner for that ministry to head the planning of this great event.
We heard that Igbogbo people are ready to display and showcase to the global community the richest traditions of their kingdom.
