Dr. Taiwo Hassan the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the General Hospital, Ikorodu is a prince of Ikorodu from Ipakodo. His father was the former Sekumade of Ipakodo before the ascension of the present Sekumade, Oba Bashir Sotonwa.
That he’s a Prince is not in doubt, but his professional capability is something that has endeared him to the people of Ikorodu and beyond. Since he took over the mantle of leadership of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, his name has been ringing bell throughout Ikorodu and Lagos State.
Recently under his leadership, the Lagos State Government declared General Hospital, Ikorodu, as the best hospital in the state, courtesy of the improved infrastructure and service delivery instituted by his administration in the hospital.
Go to General Hospital, Ikorodu, a lot of development is going on there, yet, this handsome prince of Ikorodu is not tired as he plans to take the hospital to greater heights with the supports of the entire management team and staff.
Those close to Dr. Hassan said that he’s not only passionate about the job but that he’s a workaholic who works round the clock and would not leave office until 8pm or beyond. Even during emergency periods, they said he’s always on ground to ensure that things are under control.
Now wonder the amiable and brilliant medical director was showered with praises and accolades by the people during a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the General Hospital recently.
Also, unknown to him, Ikorodu people have been monitoring his administration in the General Hospital, Ikorodu, since inception and they honoured him with the Role Model award at the recently concluded Ikorodu – Oga Day 2021, in recognition of his excellent performance at the hospital.
The fair skinned prince of Ipakodo Kingdom, who studied and practiced medicine in Lagos with impeccable records, was the recipient of the was invited to the podium and he strolled with head high to the podium where his citation was read to the audience. He was presented the award amidst a standing ovation, which lasted for several minutes.
The people of Ikorodu appreciated Dr. Taiwo Hassan for the sweeping revolution the Ikorodu General Hospital have undergone since he assumed office as the chief medical director.
Oba Kabiru Shotobi and the recipient of the role model award were presented artistic drawings from school students. Three finalists who sketched portraitist of Oba Kabiru and Dr. Taiwo Hasan were selected and awarded cash prices for their talents.
Solomon Udoka Justice of the Ikorodu Senior High School won the portrait competition for his brilliant sketch of Oba Kabiru Shotobi, while 11 years old Abdul Subair of Hamsor Private School Ikorodu was awarded the first runner up price.
When invited to give his acceptance speech, Dr. Taiwo Hasan encouraged the youths to work hard because there is reward for hard work. He thanked the men of substance in Ikorodu who stood by him. The doctor also thanked his staff at the Ikorodu General Hospital who had given him the necessary support he needed to revolutionize the hospital.
When journalists besieged him for comment, Dr. Hasan explained that the award is an annual award for role models with the aim of encouraging the young ones to emulate virtues of distinguished men and women in the society. “It is basically an award for role-models and to remind the youths that the reward for hard work is more work.
The youth should take whatever they are doing seriously. Whether it is schooling, learning trade or a vocation, they must put in their best to achieve greatness for themselves and for their community.” When asked by reporter why his father made him attended public primary school when the monarch could afford exclusive school, the doctor told the reporters that his father wanted to live by example. My dad withdrew me from private school to enroll in the new public school founded in Ipakodo back then. He wanted to live by example, thank God things ended well. Here I am today as the Executive Chief Officer of Ikorodu General Hospital.
He was also asked what his future planes for the Ikorodu General Hospital are. “My earnest plan is for Ikorodu General Hospital to become a teaching hospital where we will train our staff to teach resident doctors. I have initiated the steps and hope that in due time the government will give us approval.
My administration has started encouraging our staff to go on further courses to prepare them to fit into the new role and we have procured the necessary facilities.
The Nigerian Medical Practitioners of Nigeria has rated Ikorodu General hospital to be in the league of teaching hospitals. The night of the fourth day ended with music performance by a notable Fuji artist who performed till dawn.
