Lagos State Health Commission members visit Ikorodu General Hospital, score medical director Taiwo Hassan very high

The Lagos State Health Service Commission (LSHSC) has commended the Medical Director of the General Hospital, lkorodu, Dr Taiwo Hassan, for the tremendous turnaround of the hospital. The commendation was given on Friday, August 13, 2021, when the Chairman of the LSHSC, Mrs. Atinuke Onayiga, and other top rank officials of the Commission paid a familarisation visit to the hospital.

Oriwu Sun reporters were at the hospital during the visit which marked the end of the Board members’ familiarisation tour to all the twenty-seven General Hospitals in the State, in line with the state government’s THEMES Agenda.

The LSHSC officials, who arrived the hospital premises around 10.30am, were warmly received by the Hosptal’s management committee, led by Dr. Taiwo Hassan who had been on ground very early in the morning to receive the Board members.

The current improvement in the management and development of the Ikorodu General Hospital, brought about by Dr. Taiwo Hassan who took over the reign of leadership in June 2020, has continued to attract commendations from patients the people of Ikorodu.

This commendation was re-echoed by Mrs. Onayiga and her team who could not hide their admiration for the massive overhaul of medical facilities and services facilitated in the hospital by Dr. Hassan within the short period of time that he took over the mantle of leadership.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries after their arrival, the LSHSC officials were led to the hospital’s conference room for a brief meeting with the hospital’s management team.

It was indeed a commendation galore at the meeting as the LSHSC Chairman and her team took turns to laud Dr. Hassan and his team for a job well done.

The Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Onayiga, in her remarks, commended the Dr. Hassan led management committee of the lkorodu General Hospital for its numerous achievements and of delivering quality and affordable healthcare to the people of lkorodu and its environs in line with the THEMES agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

She also said that Dr. Hassan has performed brilliantly well since taking charge of the hospital and urged the staff to continue to support him while expressing confidence in his ability to provide further improvement.

“We are happy to be here today and we are impressed by what we have seen on ground. When we were planning this visit, we couldn’t decide on time whether to visit lkorodu last or not and we had a lot of regig in that regard. But with what we are seeing here today, we don’t regret coming here last and that means we are ending our familiarisation tour on a very good note.

“When we came in, we noticed that all of you (the staff) were happy as you went about your duties. That shows that you love your job. We could also see that the patients were calm and peaceful. With this, we are sure that the hospital is being well managed and in capable hands.

“Dr. Hassan and his management team have done brilliantly well and we are certain that they will do more. We want you (the staff) to continue to support them and work with them with love and understanding”.

The duo of Dr. Bolaji Olukoya, Commissioner 2 and former Medical Director of the Ikorodu General Hospital, and Dr. Olumuyiwa Solanke, Commissioner 1, in their separate remarks, also expressed excitement over the monumental infrastructural upgade initiative in the hospital.

Also, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi, Commissioner 4, in her own speech, applauded Dr Hassan and his team for developing a strategic plan for lkorodu General Hospital, stating that any organisation without a strategic plan would not have a clear focus and vision.

She stated that Dr. Hassan has demonstrated exemplary leadership and proved that Medical Directors can also function beyond management of hospital.

After the meeting, Dr. Hassan led the Commission’s Chairman and her team on an inspection tour of some of the departments in the hospital, during which they made suggestions and observations and also commended the state of the art facilities they saw, particularly at the recently renovated Postnatal Ward II and the newly equipped Blood Donor’s Clinic.

Other sections inspected were Pharmacy department, Physiotherapy/Orthopedic department, Medical Records department, renovated General Out-Patients department, Radiology department, upgraded Accident and Emergency Unit and Staff Car Park among other.

Curtain was drawn on the visit around 1.30pm with a group photograph between the Commission’s officials and members of the hospital’s management committee.

In an additional report by the hospital’s Information department the Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, in his welcome address, put the Commission members through the numerous improvements the hospital had undergone within a year he was given the baton of leadership at the health facility.

He disclosed to the team that the hospital embarked on a marathon renovation of its existing facilities as well as the provision of world standard medical equipment at various medical departments in the hospital.According to the Medical Director, aside renovations, other major achievements of the health facility was the upgrading of the hospital’s electricity from 11KVA to 33KVA, the overhaul of the Accident and Emergency Section, which now has a centralized oxygen reservoir, the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system the hospital recently launched as well as the new installed High Dependency Unit (HDU) with three (3) ventilators.

He equally informed the team that the hospital would soon have an elevator. The Board members, starting from the chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga  Dr. Muyiwa Adetokunbo Solanke (Commissioner 1), Dr. Mobolaji Ayotunde Olukoya (Commissioner 2), Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi (Commissioner 4)  and Mrs. Adedoyin Fetuga (Assistant Director – DCSS), all took turns to commend the hospital management team as well as its entire staff for putting the hospital on a positive pedestal. The chairman, in particular, commended the Medical Director, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, for his proactive and innovative leadership inclinations.

She affirmed that the hospital has the right structures, facilities and manpower to become the best General Hospital in Lagos. The LSHSC team also stated that with the rate at which the General Hospital, Ikorodu, is developing, it is on the verge of achieving its desired health care goals.

Mrs. Sarumi, Head of Department (Admin./HR) of the hospital thanked the inspection team for taking out time to visit the hospital.
