Kaoli steps down from Senate race

Following the latest development in the Lagos East Senatorial District by-election slated for October 31st 2020, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya has bowed to the party consensus by withdrawing his interest to run for the vacant seat. Asipa Kaoli made this announcement on his social media platforms to his well-wishers, friends and supporters on August 17, 2020.

Few weeks ago, he declared his intention to occupy the vacant seat of the Lagos East Senatorial District and has been in consultation with stakeholders since then. But he had to change his plans after meeting with leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his message to his well-wishers, Kaoli wrote “In deference to the party and our national leader, it gives me great pleasure to announce, again address you all through this medium concerning my desire to represent the Lagos East Senatorial District at the national assembly…” In the letter, he thanked everyone who had shown him support while making consultation and stated that he will continue in his capacity as party leader for the APC East Senatorial District. “…and with my utmost confidence in the leadership of the Jagaban of Borgu, wherever he goes, I will follow. He is a strategist I have come to respect and his decision I always respect. Therefore, it is without any worry or regret that I accept the need for me to continue with task of leading our party in the district while we all support the party’s choice to go on and win the Lagos East Senate seat for the APC.”

Meanwhile, reliable sources have affirmed that the Managing Director of Polaris Bank, Mr. Tokunbo Abiru, who is also from Ikorodu has been tipped to be the party’s choice to get the APC ticket for the October by-election. It was said that Mr. Tokunbo Abiru who is a technocrat was not anticipating the nomination but was favoured by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his endearing qualities. Abiru has been in the banking sector for over thirty years and has accomplished a lot in the corporate world through hard work, diligence and integrity.

Aside being a onetime commissioner for Finance during Babatunde Fashola’s regime, Abiru has been a core technocrat who has knack for thoroughness and a seasoned administrator with clean record and as a result, was found impressive by the National leader.

Oriwu Sun gathered that his nomination for the senate was overseen by the party’s apex group Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and endorsed by Bola Tinubu and he has accepted the nomination and will soon get to work.

With his nomination and support from party stakeholders and endorsement of the GAC, Tokunbo Abiru may end up being the unanimous candidate for the All Progressives Congress to run for the Lagos East Senatorial District in October 31, 2020.

The seat of the Lagos East Senatorial District became vacant, following the sudden death of Bayo Osinowo, aka Peperinto, who died of covid-19 complications in the month of July 2020. Late Senator Osinowo occupied the since June 2019 till his untimely death in July.
