A heavy downpour wreaked havoc in Ijede community, a town in Ikorodu division, as magistrate court and houses were submerged in floods.
The down-pour, which started on Wednesday June 15, flooded the entire magistrate court premises and other parts of the town, which according to investigation, was caused by a narrow gutter, which could not hold the flood; thereby, spreading to the road.
Residents including shop owners were seen lamenting about the terrible incident when our reporter visited the place. Some of the lawyers interviewed said they could not pass through the flood into the court room.
Some rolled up their trousers and shoes to be able to enter the court, which could not sit for proceedings that day. The lawyers were busy watching the submerged court premises. The rainfall also affected residents as they packed out their clothes to dry.
A resident by name, “Baba Ibeji,” told Oriwu Sun that the court premises was flooded because of the narrow gutters that made it difficult to contain the flood because it was not at the same level.
Hence, during rainfall, the floods take over the gutters. Some of the properties destroyed included fish ponds while the Ijede pacific road that links to Igbe was crowded with people catching fish along the area.
Several people and motorists were stranded as a result of the flood taking over the road. Some of them, in an interview, told Oriwu Sun that local government administration should find a way to prevent future occurrence and provide proper drainage for the floods.
