Gov Sanwo-Olu’s magnanimous move to use concrete stones for Sekumade-Ogolonto road

If information reaching Oriwu Sun is anything to go bys then, we can authoritatively and exclusively report that concrete stones would be used for the proposed construction of the Ogolonto – Sekumade road in Ikorodu West Local Council Area (LCDA) by the Lagos state government.

Oriwu Sun reliably gathered that rather than the usual use of “tar and interlocks”, the hard working governor of the state, Mr. BabajideSanwo-Olu, and his ever supportive deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, have decided to break away from the norm and embark on the use of concrete stones for the reconstruction of the all-important road to ensure that it serves the people of the Ikorodu division and other road users for the next 30 years.

While speaking on the decision of the government to use concrete for the road project, a reliable source informed Oriwu Sun that the state government is currently facing the challenges of paucity of fund and as a result, has decided to use concrete stones for the project since it will make the road durable and prevent any repair work on it for a long time rather than using interlocks or tar which might make the road to collapse again after few years of construction.

The source added that the decision to use concrete stones for the project was responsible for the reason Consteng Construction Company, a reputable Ikorodu based Construction Company which constructed the road few years back, was not given the contract for the reconstruction.

It was also gathered that the use of concrete stones for road construction is a new method currently being used in United States and other advanced countries as well as for the on-going construction of Oshodi – Oworonshoki – Apapa expressway.

The contract for the road was few weeks ago reported to have been awarded to Arab Contractors, a construction gaint which handled the construction of Ebute – Ibeshe road and Ota- Ona – Itamaga Road in Ikorodu, by the state government.

The road, which connects the Nigeria Port Authority and Ikorodu Lighter Terminal, has collapsed for many years due to the activities of heavy duty vehicles that are bringing in and out goods from the Terminal and Dangote Company situated within the terminal located in Ebute.

Activities of sand dredgers along the axis and neglect by the state government equally contributed to the collapse of the road.

The news of the reconstruction of the road has since generated reactions from the residents, motorists and other road users most of whom commended the state government for deeming it fit to repair the road and also appealed that necessary efforts should be put in place to ensure that quality job is done and in good time too.
