Two illustrious sons of Ikorodu have bagged top appointments in their fields of endeavor, catapulting the name of their community to greater heights.
One of the two is Mr. Tokunbo Abiru, who was recently appointed the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Skye Bank. The brilliant son from Ikorodu was formerly the Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State and Ex-Executive Director of First Bank Plc.
A quiet and easy going man, Tokunbo Abiru is the son of Late Justice Muba Abiru, who was a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the first republic. This late father of Mr. Tokunbo Abiru would be remembered as the Senator, who moved a motion in the Senate to level Oriya Hill in Ikorodu following the traffic grid lock it caused and chains of accident witnessed at that time. He was also a judge of the Fire Arms Tribunal.
Like father, like son, Tokunbo has picked up the baton from his late father, getting two top positions in the banking industry and a cabinet appointment in the state. He is a member of the prestigious Oriwu Club in Ikorodu and an eminent who has contributed immensely to the development of Ikorodu town and the state.
There is no doubt that as the Chief Executive of Skye Bank, he will not only bring innovations and development to that bank but also to Ikorodu division.
Another prominent Ikorodu son is Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the young and talented Chairman of DSTV. This brilliant Lawyer was recently appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, replicating the achievement of his late father, Chief Adebayo Ogunsanya, who was also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). His election brought to three the number of SANs from that big Ogunsanya family namely his father, himself and the late politician Otunba Adeniran Ogunsanya.
It also brought to six the number of SANs from Ikorodu, including the late T.O.S Benson, Chief B. O. Benson and Mrs. Folake Solanke (SAN) from Alabukun family in Ikorodu
Like his father, who was also known as Baba Kofo, Mr. Adewunmi has contributed a lot to the development of sports in Ikorodu.
Both Tokunbo Abiru and Adewunmi Ogunsanya, no doubt, have made waves around the country and will bring positive impact into their home community.
