Why Oba Shotobi bagged Vanguard Award – Civil Rights

why_oba_shotobiOba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi is a man of many parts. He is an Engineer, a successful businessman and a well-respected community leader. He spent 20 years of dedicated service as an Engineer at West African Portland Cement, rising to Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer. He is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kadesh Petroleum, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi is a scion of the great Lasunwon Ruling House of Ikorodu. His father was Alhaji Bisiriyu Eniayebaje Shotobi of the Adegorushe Compound, Ajina, Ikorodu. His mother, Madam Sidikat Ebudola Shotobi was also of Rademo Ruling House. He is a bonafide blue blood Prince of Ikorodu. He was born on February 5, 1956 in Ikorodu to the aforementioned parents. Oba Adewale attended Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, Zumratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Surulere and Federal School of Art and Science, Victoria Island, Lagos, where he completed his secondary education in 1976.

He got employed as a Clerical Officer with the Tourist Company of Nigeria, the then owner and Managers of Chains of Hotels in Nigeria, which included Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, where he was stationed. In 1979, he proceeded to the United States of America for the proverbial Golden Fleece, which he acquired promptly in laude in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, USA. He did his National Youth Service with West African Portland Cement Company in 1984; there, he demonstrated his skill, brilliance and sense of responsibility, which earned him automatic employment after the service and he served dutifully until his retirement in 2004.

A real patriot of Ikorodu, Oba Shotobi felt the need to be closer to his place of origin which he had missed so much in his quest for success. Hence, he made solid preparation for his homecoming. Prior to his retirement, he had incorporated and established a Petroleum Products Marketing Company namely Kadesh Ventures Nigeria Limited, with several retail outlets, all in the vicinity of Ikorodu. Today, he is the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Kadesh Petroleum, Ikorodu. A socialite of no mean repute, he is a member and current  President of the Sky Club of Nigeria. Also a philanthropist par excellence, he is a Patron and contributor to several other clubs in Ikorodu.

As a Muslim, Oba Kabiru Adewale went on Pilgrimage to the Holy land, Mecca in Saudi Arabia with his wife and son in 2004.

A family man par excellence, he is married to Alhaja Olori Kudirat Abosede Shotobi, his industrious and adorable wife, who has been holding forth for him for the past 36 years, keeping the domestic end and acting as the Managing Director of all Kadesh Business.

He is a member of Nigeria Institute of Management and Fellow, Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS). He won the Distinguished Service Award presented by Rotary Club of Gowon Estate, Lagos. He bagged Honorary Membership Award of Ikorodu Metropolitan Lions Club. As a testimony to his innumerable and immeasurable contributions to national development and selfless service to humanity, he was conferred with Development in Nigeria Merit Award in 2008 and Stars International College Distinguished Personalities Merit Award in 2009.

Oba Kabirudeen Shotobi, an icon, a respected community leader, philanthropist, humble, diligent, loyal and modest gentleman, was the Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom (Erujeje) and he ascended as the Ayangbure of Ikorodu (Adegorushen V) after the demise of Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi.
