Unilag Vice Chancellor visits Sesan Daini, shower praises on the chairman for his progress

One of the brightest and performing council chairmen in Ikorodu division, Builder Olusesan Mayokun Daini, the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), recently played host to an august visitor in the person of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Igbogbo as one of the alumni of the University.

The visit was part of an ongoing efforts of the university to acknowledge the commendable efforts of its Alumni body which Builder Daini is one of its inestimable members, and also usher support for the body.

The visit, based on the request by the council Chairman, witnessed an agreement between the University of Lagos and Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA to work together on human capital development in fulfilment of the collaboration principles of “The Town and the Gown”.

Meanwhile, Professor Ogundipe, in his address at the meeting, stated that the visit to Builder Daini, who was the Speaker of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) while in the university, was a continuation of the institution’s conscious decision to follow-up on its former students that are now in position of authority and ensure that they are working in line with the academic and moral education that were imparted in them.

He stated that his team had equally paid visit to other alumns of the institution at the National Assembly to know if they have been using their mandate to impact on the people.

“You, like other products of our institution, is on our radar, we are watching you closely. We have equally checked on others too in positions of authority to know what they have been doing with this mandate given to them,” Professor Ogundipe told the chairman.

Reacting to the request of the chairman for human capital development training for staff and youths in the council, the VC stated that UNILAG’s Entrepreneurship Training is endowed with the manpower and resources to conduct intensive trainings.

He added that the institution’s human development training is the first of its kind in Nigeria and fourth in Africa with a globally recognized certification and authorization.

The Vice Chancellor, while commending Builder Daini for his sterling achievements in the last three years as chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and describing him as one of the industrious alumni of UNILAG, commended him for his contribution and support for the actualization of the greater Lagos dream and a better Nigeria.

In his response, Builder Daini expressed immense gratitude to the VC and his team for counting him worthy of such a high profile visit, stating that the visit was a significant one because it came few weeks to the marking of his third year in office as the chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

To underscore the importance which his administration placed on education and youth development in the council, the vibrant council chairman used the occasion of the VC’s visit to request for a collaboration with UNILAG on Human Development Programme for the council staff and youths in Igbogbo community in the form of Leadership Training and Capacity Building as a way of giving them a secure future.

He also used the occasion to highlight some of his achievements in the areas of security, education, health, infrastructures among others.

Among these included curbing of the nefarious activities of the cultist groups through the establishment of a “Squadron 63 MOPO Base” within the council and renovation, rehabilitation and construction of Primary Schools and Primary Health Care Center within the council.

Also at the visit, Builder Daini led Professor Ogundipe and his team on a brief tour of the ultra-modern council secretariat that is currently being constructed by his administration while the VC commended him for his visionembarking on such a monumental project.
