Tobalase women group debuts, Yeye Oge Idiat Amori Sanda now matron, hosts members

A new club named Tobalase was debuted last Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the matron’s home, Alhaja (Chief) Idiat Amori Sanda along Benson Street, Ebute, Ipakodo, Ikorodu. The event, which witnessed more than one hundred guests of both males and females, lasted till 8pm.
This group of seventeen women dressed in their pink attires of iro and buba adorned with different types of head gears, decided to form the all-lady’s club as a mark of honour for Kabiyesi, Oba Kabiru Shotobi.
They will add glamour to the palace whenever the Kabiyesi is celebrating important annual events and festivals. They will henceforth have a special spot to celebrate with the Oba Shotobi during special events.
It will be recalled that there is a social group called Tobalase, formed by responsible men in Ikorodu. The all-men group is a special social group who joins the Kabiyesi in marking special festivals; they always appear in special uniform with designed caps and apparels.
The Iyalode of the Tobalase group, Mrs. Owoyele Olufunke Asabi, in an interview with the Oriwu Sun, said their outing today is to honour their matron, who is also the Yeye Oge of Ikorodu, Alhaja (Chief) Idiat Amori Sanda as she formally accepted the honour of being the new group’s matron. After this, they will visit the Kabiyesi’s palace to formally get Oba Kabiru’s blessings, during which they will have a grand reception at the Palace and officially launch the acceptance of their group.
“We want the group (Tobalase Obirin, Ikorodu kingdom) to start REGBEREGBE in Ikorodu kingdom that’s why we have Iyalode instead of President of the group. Egbe Tobalase Obirin is a traditional group and the first of its kind in Ikorodu kingdom,” she added.

Some of the members of the newly formed Tobalase all-women group are responsible married women and successful businesswomen, who are mostly graduates. It will be recalled that there was no such women groups attached to the palace. Perhaps, this is the first of its kind in the Ikorodu royal palace, and many relish in the novelty of the idea. Many believe that the group will not discriminate against other female groups and the group will not disband after a while.
September 5, 2021, was a joyous day for the Tobalase all-women group as they dined, merried and danced to the tune of melodious music.
Alhaja Sanda did not disappoint her special guests; she provided sumptuous meals, drinks and entertainment for the new group members. The event was well planned and well coordinated by the rich host. The popular Ikorodu caterer known as Iya Kofo, served delicious meals for the entire guests. There was so much to eat and drink that huge leftovers were recovered. It was obvious that she spent a fortune on the event.
After the treat of food, drinks and music, the group posed for the camera in happy mood. Many wish the group well and look forward to a stronger bond among the ladies.
