Tailors, hairdressers, teachers, food, cultural dancers thrill Oba Shotobi, wife, past chairmen

The fourth day of the Ikorodu Oga day celebration is a special and glamorous day set aside by Ikorodu Oga Development Association for tasting local food and drinks. It is a day Royal Fathers and other indigenes of Ikorodu come together to have a taste of locally made food in Ikorodu and to celebrate past Chairmen of the Association.

Local foods like Akara Oka, Asaro, Ipekere, Egbo, Afon, Ebiripo, Sagidi, Ikokore, Akara Egusi, (Igbalo), etc., were made available for the Kabiyesi and his wife as well as other Ikorodu people to enjoy. The event, which started around 3p.m, featured health talk by Prince Mane Tajudeen Olusesi, Chairman Sesi King Traditional Hospital, who spoke on the usefulness and importance of local herbs as good option for people’s health.

The day also witnessed the celebration of IKODASS’ past Chairmen, music by performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Ikorodu chapter, Association of Theatre Art Practitioners, Ikorodu chapter as well as fashion parade by Nigerian Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists (HASHO) Ikorodu chapter, exhibition by National Union of Tailors (NUT), Ikorodu chapter as former Chairmen, who have sacrificed a lot for the Association, all joined the current Chairman Otunba Ganiu Abiru, to celebrate the day. They are Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Otunba David Ekiyoyo, Aremo Ogunsanya, Otunba Adekunle Oyebola, and Chief B. O. Benson (SAN).

During the event, series of hairstyles like Shuku, Kojusoko, Oleku, Onilu gangan, Olori, Gold mask queen, Koroba, Kolese, Kehinsoko, Moremi, Panumo, Onile Gogoro, Ojo Kopeti, among others, were displayed on parade by the Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists (NASHCO). This caught the huge crowd by surprise because many had never seen such beautiful and attractive hairstyles except the ones they see on screen. They couldn’t believe there were skilled hands in Ikorodu, who could make such colourful and fascinating hairstyles.

The Association of Tailors were also not left out in the parade as they all left the whole crowd in doubt of the originality of the paraded styles. The styles could easily be adjudged foreign. The entire crowd inside the town hall were forced to give a rousing ovation as they were greatly entertained. Many took pictures of the displayed styles in order to show their tailors in preparation of the festive season. The Orisadotun Isese Parapo Association of Ikorodu were awarded with the Cultural Heritage Award in recognition of their sustenance of Ikorodu cultural heritage.

The glamorous event was chaired by Honourable Olusegun Benson, who appreciated the support and effort of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, towards the success of the 26th Ikorodu Oga day celebration. He also commended the great work done by the IKODASS Executives within a short period of time.

He, however, called on Ikorodu indigenes to always promote their culture everywhere they go and serve as a good ambassador of their community. He urged them to see Ikorodu Oga Day celebration as an avenue for them to bring in innovations for the betterment of the community and for showcasing their cultural heritage for the outside world. He donated a sum of fifty thousand naira to support the completion of IKODASS ongoing projects while Alhaja Fatimot L. (aka Iya Silifat) donated a sum of twenty thousand naira, among other donors.

Other guests at the event were the Royal Host, His Royal Majesty Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi; traditional Chiefs and Baale’s’ the Publisher of Oriwu Sun newspaper , Chief Monzor Olowosago; Alhaja Fatuga Olayiwola; Iya Oloja Ladega market, past Chairmen of IKODASS, among others.
