The glamour and grandeur of Yoruba monarchical institution were played out at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, when the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, led a powerful delegation of his traditional chiefs, all dressed in dignifying brilliant white robes, to pay a courtesy visit to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The whole of Alausa stood still for the Ooni’s entourage as civil servants, security agents and all categories of workers trooped out to see the colourful and noble visitors from Ife, Osun State. Dressed like Emperor of the old, the Ooni radiated power, majesty, charisma and beauty as he moved with his chiefs.
It was a sight to behold as Oba Ogunwusi and his entourage typified the kind of guests Alausa receives once in a long while. The visit brought out the best in yoruba culture and tradition and the dignity attached to that exalted office of the Ooni who is regarded as the most distinguished and most powerful of all the Obas in Yorubaland.
No wonder Obaship tussles like gubernatorial and presidential elections in politics, is like a do or die affair. There is a lot of honour, respect, dignity and power attached to it.
