SHOPRITE COMING TO IKORODU

1The rumor that the multi-billion naira Shoprite, the biggest shopping plaza/complex in the country at present, is planning to come to Ikorodu appears real now.

The speculation began last year when massive infrastructural work was going on at Majidun area of Ikorodu, unknown to many that it was the headquarters of the BRT project between Ikorodu and Mile 12.

The next set of rumour was that the Lagos State government was partnering with some influential business people and that all of them were looking for land to build a Shoprite complex in Ikorodu division.

Today, these guess – works, rumour or speculations appear to have come true. Oriwu Sun can authoritatively tell our readers that Ambode’s government is now looking for anyone either in Ikorodu, Lagos State or in the country, ready to express their interest(s) in this urban development project.

The state government is urging anyone keen on the Lagos megacity initiative to come forward. According to sources, the state government is not only interested in such investment in Ikorodu but also in Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island and to plant and execute other such big projects across the state.

In a public advert published by Punch Newspaper on Monday March 14, 2016, the state government had acquired three hectares of land opposite Ikorodu General Hospital to build the shoprite.

Investigations by Oriwu Sun confirm that the state government has actually pinpointed three hectares of land owned by government in a marshy area opposite the General Hospital and behind Ikorodu Local Government secretariat for the project.

Some of those Oriwu Sun contacted said the vast marshy area, hidden behind some frontal buildings along that portion of beach road, could easily be reclaimed for such big life style projects and mega shopping complex being contemplated in Ikorodu by the government.
