Primero Nigeria Limited, operators of the Blue BRT Buses and a well-known public mass transit organization, on Saturday, August 29, 2020, engaged in a marathon care responsibility exercise in Ikorodu aside its primary task of commuting Lagosians to different destinations in Lagos State through its various luxurious imported buses.
The laudable initiative, according to report, was embarked upon by the company mainly to complement the efforts of the state government to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure the safety of the residents.
In carrying out the task, which is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the Managing Director, Mr. Fola Tinubu, led the officials and other staff of the company to distribute about 10,000 face mask across the busy areas of Ikorodu and also engaged in cleaning of gutters as well as packing and disposing of refuse into stationed LAWMA trucks.
The distribution and health awareness campaign took off from the main terminal of the company at Ikorodu garage roundabout and taken to other busy sections of Ojubode, Etunrenren, Owolowo, Ayangbure road down to Ebute axis of Ikorodu.
The exercise, which lasted for more than four hours, attracted undivided attention of commuters, market men and women and passers-by as Mr. Tinubu and his team had a frequent brief stopover as specific point to clean gutters and pack evacuated dirt.
The Health Sensitization train had a brief stopover at the Ayangbure palace, where the Primero bus and his team paid homage to Oba Kabir Shotobi and also engaged in brief cleaning exercise in the palace.
Oba Shotobi, in appreciation of the gesture, came out to give the team a warm reception and commended them for the initiative – which he said will impart positive value on the residents, regarding sanitation and health safety.
“For executing your goodwill course earlier today, I must appreciate the managing director in the person of Mr. Fola Tinubu and his entire Primero Nigeria Limited staff for taking out time today, out of a very busy week, to visit Ikorodu town with such health oriented initiative at a time when it is needed the most.”
“Ikorodu really appreciate your support today and I pray that as you have ventured to sanitize this central region, God will also sanitize your homes, businesses and careers,” Oba Shotobi stated while praying for the entire Primero team.
Mr. Tinibu, while speaking at the palace, said that they embarked on the exercise to give back to the people they are serving.
“We love to give back to the society that we are servicing, which is the reason we are here today to carry out this cleaning exercise. I will also suggest that institutions and companies across Lagos State should also engage in similar exercise on regular basis to keep Lagos State clean at all times.”
“We have done our best and it is my believe that the road users, traders and residents will follow suit by ensuring the spirit of sanity for the health and safety of the entire community.”
“For us, this is not the end; subsequently, we shall be looking at other regions ad communities to also reach out and sanitize just like we have done here in Ikorodu today. When we pinpoint and make our next move, you will be very well informed and carried along,” Mr. Tinubu added.
