Several communities in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), have sought the intervention of the state government over the completion of the abandoned police stations in their area.
According to the report made available to Oriwu Sun recently, it was gathered that the police stations were proposed by the communities after meeting with the state government officials two years ago over the need to establish police stations in their domains to curb incessant criminal activities.
It was learnt that the state government directed the communities to provide lands and construct the police stations after which human resources and other facilities would be provided by the government.
However, since the communities have collectively provided the required lands and also laid the foundation for the police stations two years ago, there has not been any progress as they could not raise the required funds to complete the projects.
Among the communities include, Itamaga, Parafa, Maya, Adamo, Isiwu, Itele-Liadi, Eyimogbe, Oke-Ogbodo, Araromi, Moepelifa, and Gbaga etc. Speaking with Oriwu Sun in an interview at Ikorodu, the General Secretary, joint Community Development Association (CDA), Ward E4, under Ikorodu North LCDA, Mr. Adeshina Akerele explained that the police station has been under construction for the past two years.
According to him, the two plots of land where the project was on-going was donated by the Mopelifa Oligbeinde descendants in support of the joint CDA’s determination to ensure the presence of police formation in the LCDA.
Speaking further, he said that the CDAs have written to the former area commander in Ijede and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for their intervention, of which they gave approval and promised to assist, promise of support was also made by the newly-elected chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Adebisi Adeola Banjo to donate blocks and cements.
Mr. Akerele, then appealed to the government for quick intervention. In his words, we would like the government to intervene because we cannot do it alone.”
Alhaja Risikat Sulaimon, who belongs to the welfare committee of the Joint CDA revealed that a meeting was held recently concerning the issue among the joint CDA, where each CDA was asked to contribute ten thousand naira (N10,000) in order to commence the construction.
Alhaja Sulaimon bemoaned the situation in the community, where the crime rate is now very high with hoodlums fighting and killing people. She appealed to the government to intervene.
In another interview with Oriwu Sun, the Baale of Eyin-Ogbe, Prince Taiwo Hassan Oke-Owo, Tuuru I, of Eyin-Ogbe said that the absence of police station was part of the challenges his community was facing as there was no security of lives and property for the residents.
He disclosed that in his own gesture, he had contributed blocks and cash towards the construction of the project. Prince Taiwo, however, urged the government to assist them urgently.
