Olori Muheebat Oyefusi, the wife of the late Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, has made a passionate appeal to the Lagos State Government to take over the mansion left behind by her husband in fulfilment of his promise to donate the building for charity.
The sprawling mansion, popularly known as Royal Castle, is located along Oba Oyefusi Avenue, Lowa, Ikorodu.
She made this appeal while responding to questions during a press conference for the inaugural memorial lecture for the late traditional ruler held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the Royal Castle.
According to her, the late monarch had promised before his demise to lease the building to the state government for the purpose of turning it into library, museum and a cinema for the use of Ikorodu community.
Olori Oyefusi explained that her husband, before his death, had approached Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his regime as Governor of Lagos State, and asked him to take over the mansion and turn it into a library, museum and cinema for the people of Ikorodu since the community lacks those facilities.
She also stated that the late monarch made the same visit to Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN, to ask him to do the same after his death.
Olori Oyefusi, however, said that since the demise of the monarch in 2014, nothing has been done by the state government regarding his intent to have his castle turned to his wish.
She, therefore, urged the state government to ensure that her late husband’s wish for his castle comes to a reality for the purpose of serving the people of Ikorodu.
Also at the press conference, Olori Oyefusi stated that the annual Memorial Ramadan lecture being organized by the muslim community and the proposed burial ground for muslims, Christians and members of other religious are parts of plans to immortalize her husband.
Also on the proposed burial ground, Otunba Rafiu Adewale, the Chairman, Planning Committee for the inaugural memorial lecture, in his address, stated that they have already secured a location for the 500 million naira project within the community, adding that plans are underway to commence the construction of the cemetery soon.
He said that people would have to pay a yet to be determined amount of money to make use of the cemetery but assured that the charges would not be as high as those being charged in Vaults and gardens in Ikoyi and other private cemeteries and added that money realized from the cemetery would be used for its maintenance.
On the proposed memorial lecture, Otunba Adewale said the essence of the lecture was to uphold the legacy of late Oba Oyefusi and sustain his exemplary and immense contributions to the development of Ikorodu.
According to him, the lecture would come up on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Musical Village, Ikorodu, while the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and his Ogun and Osun states couOlori Muheebat Oyefusi, the wife of the late Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, has made a passionate appeal to the Lagos State Government to take over the mansion left behind by her husband in fulfilment of his promise to donate the building for charity.
