A commercial motorcycle rider, Mr. Charles Enifeh Omomo, his wife Faith Omomo and their six year old son Glorious Omomo were found dead in their one bedroom apartment at Number 42 Gbasemo area of Aga, Ikorodu. The incident which happened about 6 a.m. on May 27, 2019 came as a surprise to neighbours as Charles Enifeh was found dangling from a loop tied to the ceiling fan stripped naked to the waist, while his wife also found half naked lying straddled on the floor. Their six year old son laid dead foaming leather through his mouth, on the couch.
Though, there was no sign of violence among the family members in recent time, some neighbours alleged that Mr. Charles Enifeh Omomo had questioned his wife over the paternity of their only son. A neighbour who pleaded anonymity stated that he once overheard Enifeh probing his wife to disclose the true paternity of their son Glorious, else she will face his wrath.
On this tragic morning, a neighbour Mr. Taiwo Salami, narrated that the last he saw of the late family was 6 a.m. when the couple was seen leaving the shared bathroom into their apartment, Salami said; “just last night, I saw the couple playing with their children at the veranda, things seem normal. Though I left home after eating Sari, they were seen leaving the bathroom this morning, only for my wife to call me that our neighbours are dead”.
The police and local authorities were called to the scene after the incident was discovered. The Liwe traditional cult of Ikorodu and the Onyabo leader Lanre Labinjo coordinated the scene as police took away the bodies of the mother and child, while the traditional cult group performed a cleansing rites to prevent the consequences on the community. It is against the Ikorodu tradition and a taboo for anyone to commit suicide, as it is believed to bring ill fortune to the community, hence, the body of Charles Enifoh, who evidently committed suicide after killing wife and son, was handled by the traditionalists before handing it over to the police.
The late couple is survived by two daughters, twelve and ten years old. The surviving daughters seem not to know the real cause of their parent’s gruesome act. It is said that the late Charles Enifoh stopped riding his motor cycle after it developed mechanical fault and as a result the children temporarily stopped attending school. However, his temporal setback was not connected to the murder and suicide motive.
