Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, was, on Monday, March 15, 2020, vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19 virus.
A team of medical officials from the Ikorodu Local government, led by Dr. (Mrs.) Shotunde, the Head of the Medical Department of Ikorodu Local government, administered the vaccine on the monarch in his palace.
He was vaccinated alongside his queen, Olori Abosede Kudirat Shotobi, his children, family members and palace aides.
Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the Agba-Akin of Ikorodu, who was equally on ground, also received the vaccine.
Oba Shotobi, while speaking shortly after the vaccination, stated that the process is easy and appealed that any resident who have the opportunity to get the jab should submit his or herself for the vaccination.
“I witnessed the vaccination of the Incident Commander in Lagos State in person of Mr. Babajide Sawno-Olu and it is in line with that that the traditional rulers are also being vaccinated and that was what you witnessed today”, Oba Shotobi said.
“I have taken the jab for well over an hour and l don’t even feel that I have been injected. It is a seamless process”, the royal father confirmed.
“My family, chiefs and others too have been vaccinated and I appreciate the medical team of Ikorodu Local Government for taking this exercise.
“Everybody at the palace today complied with the COVID-19 protocols and as you can see, we maintained COVID-19 protocols by sanitizing everybody and also ensuring that they wear their face masks.
“We have been told that this vaccine does not prevent you from contacting the virus and that we must still ensure compliance with the protocols”.
Oba Shotobi, while recollecting his encounter with the virus which he said he was able to overcome, assured the populace that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has certified the vaccines as good for human vaccination.
“I have seen the effects of the virus. I have gone through it and I survived it and I thank God for that. I have taken the vaccine today and I am appealing to Ikorodu people that once they are opportuned to get a jab, they should surrender themselves for it.
“I have surrendered myself for the vaccination and l want you to do the same too. Prevention is better than cure. It is a preventive measure that people are taking all over the world.
“The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given its approval for the vaccination”, he said.
“People must know that taking the vaccination will help to prevent the virus, protect them against it and help prevent its spread. I will appreciate it if we all submit ourselves for vaccination whenever the opportunity arises”, the royal father appealed once more.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shotunde, in a brief interview with Oriwu Sun, said that they had come to give the first jab of the vaccination to Oba Shotobi and his family, adding that the second dosage would be administered in 12 weeks.
