Worried by the incessant killings by cultists, Omo-oniles, kidnappers and armed robberies prevalent in his domain, HRM, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu has set-up a security council, which is headed by a prominent indigene of the town, Prince Adewunmi Ogunsanya, chairman of DSTV, who recently bagged the Senior Advocate of Nigeria title conferred on him by the legal council. He is to be the chairman.
During the stakeholders meeting, Oba Shotobi told more than one hundred dignitaries drawn from the town that he was worried by the negative report in the media about Ikorodu town, especially from The Guardian newspaper, which described Ikorodu as a haven of armed robbers and other criminal elements.
The monarch said that he was not particularly happy about the publication in The Guardian of July 2, 2016, pages 49-51, which he said he had already issued a rejoinder. He asked for the people’s support for the security council set up.
According to him, he had set up a corporate structure to manage the funds and facilitated training for the ONYABO vigilance personnel. The name of the council would be Ikorodu Security Council with the mandate to reform, restructure, manage and rebrand the outfit to make it more efficient and effective.
It shall comprise the following: Chairman and chief executive (CEO); three representatives of Ikorodu Resource Development Group (IDRDG); three representatives of honourary chiefs; three representatives of Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS); three representatives of PCRC; three representatives of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu branch; three representatives of Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Ikorodu branch; three representatives of Business Organisations; ONYABO General Commander, Deputy Commander and Provost Marshal; legal adviser and executive secretary.
Term of reference:
· To commission a study of security and safety situation of Ikorodu kingdom.
· To reveal the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis of the security and safety of Ikorodu kingdom.
· To engage the police and military in designing a role for ONYABO.
· To seek Lagos State Government recognition and support for ONYABO
· To set up the operational and financial structure of the security outfit.
· To raise funds and manage same for the cause of the security organization.
· To seek legal status for her operations through local government bye-law or Lagos state government law.
· To draft a code of conduct for the outfit.
· To establish in-house insurance for ONYABO operatives and
· To design welfare package for the disabled or deceased members who died in active service.
