Oba Agboyi-Ketu visits Shotobi, commends support

The Olu of Agboyi Ketu, Oba (Engr.) Monsor Abimbola Adekanbl, on Friday, July 21, 2022, paid a royal courtesy visit to Oba Kabiru Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, in his palace.

Oba Adekanbi had embarked on the visit to thank the Ayangbure for the support given him when he was enthroned in 2020.

The monarch, who would be marking his two years installation anniversary very soon, was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Olori Fatimah Ajoke Adekanbi, some Baales and Chiefs.

Oba Adekanbi and his entourage were warmly received on their arrival at the Ayangbure palace by Oba Shotobi who was supported by Oba Bashir Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, traditional chiefs and Baales in lkorodu.

Meanwhile, speaking at the palace, Oba Adekanbi, on behalf of his royal family and entire people of Agboyi Ketu, commended Oba Shotobi for his support during his installation and described him as a selfless person.

On the development of Agboyi Ketu under his reign, the monarch told Oba Shotobi and others at the gathering that the Governor Sanwo-Olu led- Lagos State Government has approved the construction of a bridge, secondary school, town hall in the community, while adding that the Primary school in the town would also be renovated.

While responding, Oba Shotobi thanked the Olu of Agboyi Ketu and his people for deeming it fit to visit him.

He prayed for the monarch’s reign to be successful and urged the traditional chiefs, Baales and the people of Agboyi Ketu to support him so that Agboyi Ketu can be great and witness more development.

The Ayangbure also used the visitation to appeal to the state government to earmark every August 20 as a public holiday for the celebration of the ‘Isese’ Day, in recognition of the traditional religion in the state.

He also lamented the prominence being given to Lagos when the history of Lagos State is being narrated at different fora, while lkorodu and other divisions that made up the state are being given less mentioning.

To this end, Oba Shotobi said that he and other traditional rulers in the division have already compiled their histories and list of all cultural heritages for record purposes and urged the Oba of Agboyi Ketu and other Obas across the state who are affected by the development to do same as a way of preserving their history, culture and heritages for posterity.

On the on-going expansion of the Ikorodu Roundabout which has largely affected traders, most of whom have been displaced, Oba Shotobi said that it’s a price that people must be ready to pay for the development of lkorodu and urged the Baales to provide a land where the traders can be relocated to continue their trading activities.

The visit was ended with a group photograph between Oba Shotobi and Oba Adekanbi and members of his entourage.
