The popularly saying that all days are for the thieves and one day for the owner could best describe the fate of two suspected robbers who were caught with over twenty five (25) goats on Sunday, June 30, 2019, along Sabo -Itoikin road, Ikorodu.
Oriwu Sun gathered that the suspects, alongside their driver, were coming from Kwara State when their green MPV Mazda Car with Number plate JJJ-295EU skided off the road and hit a tree behind Oriwu Sun office, Ikorodu.
An eye witness told our reporter that immediately the accident occurred, the three suspected robbers came out of the car and started running.
While the driver escaped, the two others were not so lucky as they were chased and apprehended by those around the scene of the accident who suspected foul play.
After they were captured, they were led to their car where over twenty five (25) goats were found at the back seats and booth with their mouths tightly binded with black celotape.
The pathetic condition of the goats coupled with the attempt by the suspects to flee the scene of the accident made the people to invite the police as they suspected that the suspects could have stolen the goats.
Two police officers from the Sagamu Road Police station later arrived the scene and briefly interrogated the suspects but they denied stolen the goats while they also made frantic attempts to call some people on their mobile phones to speak with the police officers but were unsuccessful and were later taken away to the police station.
Meanwhile, one of the men who apprehended the suspects told our reporter that they had earlier confessed to them to have stolen the goats and even offered them N200,000 to set them free but that they rejected the bribe and opted to invite the police.
He opined that the owners of the goats may have placed curses on the suspects and that could have led to their accident and added that they don’t want to partake in the consequence of their crime by taking bribe from them to set them free.
Others at the scene also bemoaned the cruelty meted to the goats by the robbers by binding there mounts over a long distance journey and wondered how they managed to get away from the police at checkpoints before getting to Ikorodu.
A toying vehicle belonging to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was later brought to the scene to remove the vehicle to Sagamu police station.
