MARKET LEADERS BAG CHIEFTAINCY TITLES, IKODASS PLEDGES MORE SUPPORT

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) and market men and women Association of Ikorodu division led by their Iyaloja-General, Alhaja Taofikat Allison participated in the third year coronation anniversary. They paid homage and presented various gifts to Oba Shotobi.

Igbo Community and Arewa community came to the event in their large numbers to celebrate and felicitate with Oba Shotobi. Some market leaders got chieftaincy titles in line with their trade. Alhaja Fehintola Lawal Jaiyesimi was installed as Iyalaje-General of Ikorodu division, Alhaja Kehinde Agbaku Shonuga was installed Balogun-General of Ikorodu division, Mrs. Sherifat Shodipo was installed Iyaloja of Ajina Market; Mr. Musbau Agoro was installed Baba-Oja of Ike-Oluwa market, among other Chiefs.

Oba Shotobi said the Chiefs were the ones recommended by the Iyaloja-General, Alhaja Allison and they had supported him since he ascended the throne. In her short address, the Iyaloja-General described the new Chiefs as responsible market leaders and enjoined them to continue doing the good works to foster the development of markets in the division. She felicitated with Oba Shotobi and wished him more fruitful years on the throne.

IKODASS chairman and APC Senatorial Aspirant, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, in is address commended the people of Ikorodu for their financial and other supports, which led to the completion of the new palace extension. He urged them to continue with their good works while letting them know that IKODASS would be expecting them to contribute more to Ikorodu development when the Oga Day Celebration starts in November 2018. He advised politicians in the division to shun violence and work for the interest of the people in 2019 elections.

A student of Accounting, University of Lagos, in 100 level presented a portrait of Oba Shotobi which he created at the event. He got awards from Oba Shotobi, which he made through his active mind and Oba Shotobi and IKODASS awarded him cash gifts for the years of his education in the university.

Students of Foreign Service Academy were also at the palace to scoop up the history, tradition and culture of Ikorodu. The students who were more than one hundred were led by the Director, Foreign Service Academy, Dr. Cyprian Heen and former Ambassador and Director of the Academy, Ambassador Oluseyi Onafowokan.

Some prominent Ikorodu sons at the occasion gave them deeper insights into Ikorodu culture and tradition. While Dr. Bawa-Allah enlightened them on Ikorodu culture, Hon. Agunbiade explained to them what Asa-Arokolo, which he sponsored meant, which was adopted by the state government as part of the state’s Tourist attraction project.

Prince Ogede gave them deeper insights about the formation of the two ruling houses in Ikorodu, Lasunwon and Rademo. They were later conducted round the new palace extension monument by Hon. Agunbiade. He also presented the plaque of Asa-Arokolo and books written about it to them as a gift on behalf of the people of Ikorodu.

Earlier on, Dr. Cyprian and Ambassador Onafowokan had said the purpose of the visit was to expose the students to Ikorodu cultural heritage, tradition and history. They also talked about how Ikorodu graduates can join the Academy. According to them, First class, Second class upper or lower division with a Master’s degree qualifies one to seek admission into the Academy.

Royal blessings from Oba Shotobi and luncheon later signaled the end of the historical visit.
