LATLAM nursery, primary and secondary school is, no doubt, one of the best schools not only in Ikorodu but Lagos State. It is owned by a chartered Accountant, Alhaja Kudirat Lamina.
The proprietress established the school in memory of her late husband, Alhaji Lateef Lamina, who was a top senior civil servant until he met his unfortunate death during the Babangida coup along Agidingbin road.
After her husband’s death, the woman of subtance was determined to keep the name of the family by establishing this unique school. Every year, she displays extraordinary send-off party for its Nursery, Primary and secondary schools, where it show cases brilliant students who made distinctive marks in their various subjects.
Last July, Alhaja Kudirat Lamina invited dignitaries, including her late husband’s friends and family to support her. This year, she brought in a renowned civil servant, Mr. Taofeek Ajetumobi, who is the Deputy Director of Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo.
He delivered a keynote address during the schools’ graduation and prize giving day. While making his speech, the Director cautioned the students on the immoral use of the social media.
Mr. Ajetunmobi also gave advice to twenty three graduating students and their parents that they should ensure that their children were not exposed to immoral and pornographic materials while surfing the internet. According to him, they should desist from excessive attachment to the social media at the expense of their work.
Speaking about sexuality also, he explained that children of the 21st century needed to be informed about their sexuality. He said that parents should tell their children of the consequences of certain actions to enable them apply caution.
According to him, the children, who are confident today do so because their parents encouraged them. pleaded with them to shun immediate gratification and learn to be satisfied with delayed gratification.
The public service director said that children should be encouraged to seek God’s wisdom and understanding and fear Him in whatever they do. In conclusion, he asked them, “What are you doing in your circle of influence to bring about the desired change Nigeria requires?”
Also speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the ceremony, former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alhaji Rasheed Jaiyesinmi, has called for the use of indigenous languages in schools. According to him, by promoting the indigenous languages in the school curriculum, students would comprehend whatever they are being taught to save the mother tongue from going into extinction.
The former Clerk advised parents to take the education of their children seriously. In his words, “Instead of buying ‘Aso-Ebi,’ (social party wears) you should take the academic activities of your children very seriously because education is the best legacy you can give your children,” he stated.
In her own address, the proprietress of the school, Alhaja (Mrs.) K. O. Lamina (FCA), said: “We have capitalized on the available time and space presented to us to bring out the best out of our pupils. They were always encouraged to read side by side with intense academic work. We also had time for various extra-curricular activities.”
She said that every term, her school organized activities involving the three domains of education. The proprietress advised the graduands to join their predecessors whom she described as the ambassadors of the school.
Alhaja Lamina stated that posterity would recognize them as heroes of their generation. She said, “I urge you to work very hard so that the resources invested by your parents and the school towards your education would not be put to waste,” she stated.
The Proprietress also told the graduands that they would not achieve success unless they worked harder in order to realize their dreams. She revealed some of the achievements of the school, some of which were that the school recorded one hundred percent excellent performance in common Entrance Examination.
Mrs. Lamina also talked about the best results achieved by the school pupils in Navy schools, Unity Schools and other high ranking examinations. She ended her address by calling for more support from the parents because, according to her, discipline is an important element in Lateef Lamina schools.
The event witnessed LATLAM talk shows, songs, presentation activities, graduands presentation of awards and prizes to LATLAM pupils, among other activities.
Dignitaries present at the occasion were, the Chairman Board of Governor of LATLAM, Alhaji (Prince) Adegbola Amusa; Alhaja Ashabi Tijani; Mrs. Giwa Bolaji, who was the chairperson of the ceremony.
Others were Alhaji Kolawole Fatai Olayiwola, the CEO, DE-GROOM Motors and Alhaji M. A. L. Oshoala, among others.
