Joy, praises galore as Egbin Inner Wheel Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan renders free healthcare to residents

The Inner Wheel cCub of Ikorodu Metropolitan District 911, Nigeria on Friday, August 26, 2016, kicked off free health care for Egbin residents and other communities on cervical cancer, Diabetes, hypertension and Hepatitis B.
Speaking during the programme, organized as part of the club’s humanitarian project at the Egbin Town Hall, an International Health Management Expert, Dr. (Mrs) Adeyemi told the people to appreciate the good gesture of the inner wheel club Ikorodu metropolitan in organizing the programme.
Explaining about what the people needed to know about cervical cancer, she stated that cervical cancer was actually one of the second highest cancer in women. According to her, it usually states without symptoms at the onset and most people wait till they develop symptom before they go for screening or vaccination, which may be rather too late.
Dr. Adeyemi said that the club was organizing the free screening session for the people in the community because they want them to enjoy good health, thereby enabling the club to contribute positively to the society.
On the cause of cervical cancer, the health Expert said that it could be caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). In her words, “it is a virus that is actually transmitted from a man to a woman. So, any woman that is sexually active or is planning to be sexually active is prone to it,” she stated.
Other medical practitioners present at the occasion, among which were Dr. (Mrs.) Adebayo from the Department of Pathology, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ogun State; Mrs. Aladesanmi, Chief Matron, Ijede General Hospital also enlightened the residents on the need to check their blood sugar and protect them from having Diabetes and offering cure in case they are already carriers.
After the sensitization session, the District Chairman of the Inner Wheel Club International District, 911, Nigeria, I.W.M. Oluwemimo Aduke flagged off the screening programme. She was happy with what the Club had done so far with respect to the caliber of medical practitioners on ground and the quality of drugs which were being given freely to the beneficiaries at the event.
The people underwent screening under the excellent coordination of the president of the inner wheel club of Ikorodu metropolitan, I.W.M Adeyinka Ettu and her Club members while the programme was going on, Oriwu Sun spoke with the district chairman, I.W.M Oluwemimo, who flagged off the health care programme.
She said that her organization was a world-wide one that engages in humanitarian services. In her appreciation of the organizer of the event, she stated, “I appreciate the inner wheel club for carrying out this wonderful project.
“I am impressed based on what is on ground seeing these Doctors, Matrons and other health providers and what they are doing. I had already commended them and told them to carry on”, she said.
In a brief chat with the president of the Club, I.W.M Adeyinka Ettu, she revealed that the health care programme was a star project of the club’s humanitarian project of 2016/2017. She said that the quest to assist the less privileged in the society and ensure healthy living for the people prompted the club to embark on the pogramme. In her view, “if humanitarian services were being rendered continuously, the society would have been better for it. She commended the supporters of the club, disclosing that she still has a lot to offer humanity in the nearest future.
Commendation for the organisers also came from those who benefited from the screening. They stated that with the free health care provided by the club, many community dwellers now know their health status.
Some of them who spoke to Oriwu Sun after being attended to, include Mrs. Olayinka Olumutade from Parafa, Ikorodu; Mrs. Yemisi Oyekunle from Ota road. They confirmed that the test was free and that free drugs were given to them. The beneficiaries also thanked and prayed for the organisers to continue their good works.
Among the events that took place at the venue was the meeting of the club, which was chaired by the District chairman, I.W.M Oluwemimo. During the meeting, the chairman encouraged the fourteen members of the Inner Wheel club Ikorodu Metropolitan to continue to serve humanity and endeavour to get more of their friends, family members and others to join them in rendering humanitarian services.
However, some important tracts and documents were also presented to the club while the club presented gifts to the District Chairman and her Vice in appreciation of their support and good leadership qualities.
Among those present at the meeting were, President, Inner Wheel Club, Agege, I.W.M Olumuyiwa Ojelabi; President, I.W.C, Igbe, Ikorodu, Adeshola Titilola; Vice-District Chairman, I.W.M Gbemi Rufai; Chapter president, Lara Mohammed.
Others were, I.W.M. Adelanwa Yetunde; Olalude Omowunmi; Vice president, IWC of Ikorodu Metropolitan, Charlotte Oni; Iyiade Folake; Grace Olufunmi; Animasahun Oluwaseyi; Irawo Omolara; Mustapha Mutiat among others.
