Jimi Benson’s retreat for political office holders, a positive move to impact electorate on governance

  The representative of Ikorodu Federal  Constituency  in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Jimi Benson, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, organised a one day retreat for political office holders in Ikorodu division through his “I Care Foundation”. This was done in conjunction with the Catalyst, Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy (OLCA) and Life Coaches Association of Nigeria (LCAN).

The retreat, which featured twenty life coaches, was themed, “Leadership Training on Impacting the Electorate and Achieving Governance and Legislative Excellence Using the Experiential Goal Pro Method.” It was a training in which the participants were divided into groups and each group had coaches, who trained them adequately on how they could effectively and positively impact their people and host communities in the year 2018 and beyond. These coaches also had one-on-one tutorials for the participants.

The convener of the retreat, Hon Benson, the Chairmen of Local Governments and their Vice, Councilors, APC chieftains, Secretary to the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas and some Journalists were also involved in the training to improve on their developmental agenda for Ikorodu residents in the New Year. They were taught successful goal setting using T-Grow Flow Charts, which were given to each participant, among other items, to effect the purpose of the training. The twelve areas, which the coaches believe are distinct area of human life, were introduced to them.

They were also instructed that their ability to set goals in line with these twelve areas would create harmony, happiness, peace, joy and fulfilment in their lives. Various questions like, “What is your goal topic area out of the twelve areas on your goal dashboard? What do you really want? Why do you need this goal? When would you achieve this goal? How would you know if you have achieved it?” These were the major question templates by which participants assessed their goals at the training.

Before the training was concluded, the participants demonstrated, with their papers on the floor, how they intended to impact Ikorodu division and their personal lives effectively in their various locations this New Year.

Meanwhile, Hon. Jimi Benson revealed to Oriwu Sun after the training that he wanted the political office holders to make positive impacts on the people. According to him, with the training acquired, he expected them to work effectively and ensure that the electorates in Ikorodu division come out enmasse and cast their votes rightly. His expectation was that Ikorodu would move from the fourth position, which it currently occupies in the voting assessment in Lagos State, to the first position.

He said his foundation’s sole concern is to make life better and more meaning for everyone in Ikorodu division, and this should also be the primary aim of all executive and legislative arms of government in this division.

According to Lanre Olushola (the catalyst), the collaboration between the life coaches and “I Care Foundation” should be commended. The retreat, according to him, would ensure that political representatives in Ikorodu set impactful goals and have them met with the huge potentials in Ikorodu division. He revealed that it would assist the people’s representatives in government to harness their potentials positively and judiciously.

However, the Executive Chairman, Imota LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Agoro has commended Babajimi Benson for organizing the retreat. He said he and other participants had gained a lot in the course of the training and that the knowledge acquired would soon be utilized for improving the living standards of the people and fostering more development for Ikorodu division.
