A chieftain of the Ikorodu Muslim Council, Aare Abubakar Akinpelu, has finally disowned his daughter, Ms Ruqayat Akinpelu Animashaun, and also stripped her and her children of any inheritance from his properties.
Aare Abubakar Akinpelu is the Aare Muslimi of Ikorodu and its environs and also founder of Al-Hujaaj Islamic Movement, a strong Islamic organization affiliated to many other national and international Islamic bodies.
Ruqayat, Oriwu Sun gathered, was disowned by her muslim father and family for attending church services and adopting the lifestyle of a Christian despite several warnings and interventions.
Aare Abubakar Akinpelu made the declaration in a statement dated 15th December, 2019, issued to the public on behalf of the entire Muslim Society of Ikorodu, Akinpelu and Animashaun families of Ikorodu.
The statement is reproduced below:
“I, Aare Abubakar Akinpelu , the Aare Muslimi of Ikorodu , the founder of Al-Hujaaj Islamic Foundation who resides at No 6 , Kosebinu Orepekan Street , Igbogbo, Lagos, on behalf of the entire muslim community , the Akinpelu family , the Akinpelu Animashaun family, do, hereby, disassociate myself from Ms Ruqayat Akinpelu Animashaun and all her offsprings”, he said.
“This is done out of my free will and consent as the above named is no longer acting according to my control or supervision. I am no longer responsible for any immorality conducted by her”, he added.
The issue, which has been on for over a year within the Akinpelu’s family, came to public knowledge some months back when Ruqayat insisted on maintaining the Christian lifestyle against her father and family’s will.
The intervention from the Muslim Council leadership also failed to change the estranged lady’s mind.
As at the time of going to press, Ms Ruqayat was not available for comment on the matter as several calls made to her mobile phone, were tot picked and SMS sent not responded to.
Oriwu Sun also gathered that the development has led to series of threats on Ruqayat’s life, a situation which might have accounted for her recent seclusion from the public space.
