The new Bishop of Ikorodu Methodist Church, Right Reverend Kayode Osundina, last July 6, 2016, visited Oba Shotobi in his palace not only to pay homage but also to apologise for his lateness in making the visit possible after Kabiyesi’s one year on the throne.
For more than two hours, the new Bishop, together with his powerful entourage, mostly members of his Dioceses, showered praises on the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, his chiefs and the entire palace household for allowing him to pay the courtesy visit, which he said, even though belated, was due to pressure of work.
He, however, stated that his main reason for the visit to the palace was to announce his posting to Ikorodu Diocese and the readiness of the church to support the Oba’s reign to make the town peaceful, fruitful and rewarding to the Ikorodu Community.
The Bishop described the Monarch as a man of God, who was a former member of the Methodist Church. He, therefore, congratulated the entire community for having Oba Kabiru Shotobi as their king.
Bishop Osundina also thanked the Oba for the support he had given the Methodist Church since he came to Ikorodu, promising to continue to pray for the Oba.
For more than thirty minutes, it was prayer galore for Kabiyesi, the palace, town and others. In his response, Oba Shotobi expressed gratitude to the Bishop and his team for deeming it fit to pay him a courtesy visit. According to the Oba, he cherished and appreciated the visit, which he said was never too late.
He said that since the departure of the former Bishop, whom he described as a very good friend of the palace, he has been looking forward to meeting the new Bishop and his entourage.
The Oba said that he would always honour invitation from the church and use the occasion to announce the forthcoming one year anniversary on the throne, with the promise that he would do the thanksgiving in the church around August 7, 2016.
He is of the view that as an Oba, he belongs to all religions and urged the new Bishop to see the palace as his. He pointed out that he is available anytime he is needed by the church.
