The Ijede Development Foundation (IDF) on Saturday , October 14, 2017 held its annual public lecture and gave out scholarships to twenty three indigent students of Ijede community after tests and interviews has been conducted.
While delivering a public lecture titled, “Entrepreneurship: Future of the Nigerian Youths “ the guest lecturer, Mr. Olanrewaju Kuye said that the lecture is aimed at prescribing useful tips needed as survival in the current harsh economic climate and to further prepare students to see entrepreneurship as the escape route from unemployment, job insecurity and losses of jobs.
According to him, salaried jobs are presently scarce and the dreams of many youths are being scattered. In his view, values, knowledge exposure, intellectual development and research should be converted to improving themselves in the area of entrepreneurship
In his words “any nation with quality manpower would be to inaugurate, improve efficiency and therefore contribute to economic growth even in the absence of mineral resources. Your mindset should allow to take smart risks, thrive in ambiguity and bounce back from failure”.
He said this was the reason why the team that looks good on paper doesn’t always win and why the drop out becomes millionaire. Kuye also said that there was no one on earth without natural abilities. You need to identify and build strength in it.
The guest lecturer called on the Nigerian youths to begin to see clearly that their future is tied to entrepreneurship and that government should begin to invest more on the youths in the area of entrepreneurship empowerment in order to encourage youth participation.
He admonished the youths to begin to seek helpful information on entrepreneurship training, findings and development at both local and international levels. Kuye said they should stop relying on white collar jobs but to him their passion to profit and employees of labour and undertakers.
While speaking with Oriwu Sun during the program, the Chairman of Ijede Development Foundation (IDF), Alhaji Fola Salu said that education win the key to the development of Ijede community and that’s why the program was organized to assist the students in pursuing their dreams .
Stating further, he said “we need to assist the indigent students that her in higher institution to accomplish their aims. In keeping with the tradition is the IDF, a test and interview were conducted at Luwasa Senior High school, Ijede on Saturday, August 5, 2017 for under graduation that applied for IDF awards .
In all, thirty eight (38) applications were received, thirty two candidates (32) reported the test out of which only sixteen candidates measured up to the IDF standard. Because IDF has provision for twenty three (23) awards this year, the remaining seven were selected on merit from the past awardees that were still in school, Fola Salu stated.
According to the chairman, the vision of IDF was to make Ijede LCDA sixty percent (60percent) self-reliant. He urged the award to make good use of the opportunity they have been given and endeavor to stay focused on their academic field in order for them to become gainfully employed in the future.
The executive chairman of Ijede LCDA, Alhaji Faliu, Jimoh Salisu advised the students to remain focused and concentrate on their studies. He enjoined them to think the development of their communities before and after their education.
Faliu Jimoh urged the parents of the awardees to support their children and ensure that they are successful.
IDF also honored six prominent personalities with different awards for the unexpected roles, they played in Ijede community and their patriotic input in the success of Ijede Development Foundation.
