General Hospital, Ikorodu wins another award as best hospital

General Hospital, Ikorodu, is in the news again. The innovations and customer service initiatives of the recently revitalized hospital, under the able leadership of its hardworking Medical Director, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, has been adjudged as the best hospital in the state where solutions are being adequately proffered to patients’ complaints for the second year running.

The latest award, Best Complaint Hospital on Service Charter Standards, was conferred on the hospital at the 2022 Lagos State Service Charter Awards ceremony organized by the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OCTI), on Monday, November 7, 2022.

The award event, which was used to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the service charter initiative into the State Public Service, was attended by the Head of Service in the State, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, as well as stakeholders in the Lagos State Health Sector and State Civil Service in general.

The award is not new to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, as it has won it several times. Precisely, Dr. Taiwo Hassan was adjudged as the Best Service Charter Director in the State between 2014 and 2022.

To put the record straight, the recent giant strides and remarkable achievements recorded by the general hospital under the management of Dr. Hassan, are first in the history of the hospital since its establishment in 1983, under the administration of late Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

The current envious status of the hospital as the best General Hospital in Lagos State is not a fluke and did not come as a surprise considering the massive transformational and developmental progress attained within a space of few year of the administration of Dr. Hassan whose administrative acumen and managerial sagacity have brought about effective and efficient service delivery, great innovations and historic infrastructural development.

Before the coming of Dr. Hassan, the hospital offered minimal health care services as patients were being referred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ayinke House, Island Maternity among others, for services not offered in the general hospital.

However, with the recent upgrading by the Dr. Hassan led management, there has been massive improvement on the existing facilities while new ones have also been added.

Announcing the feat on its official social media platform, the hospital management said: “We are honoured to have our hospital ranked as the ‘Best Complaint Hospital,’ on service charter standards at the year 2022 Lagos State Charter Awards by the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI).

“This award, again, bears testimony to our commitment to our vision of taking healthcare services to its Zenith in line with the THEMES agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in Lagos State.

“General Hospital, Ikorodu, is committed to the highest standards of patient care. We celebrate and thank our staff and patients who entrust there care to us.”

Meanwhile, residents of Ikorodu have commended the Dr. Hassan led management of the hospital on their latest achievement. They particularly lauded Dr. Hassan for lifting the general hospital out of its former pariah state and turning it  into a world class health facility which has become the toast and pride of the Ikorodu people.

A prominent personality and stakeholder in the community, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, while reacting to the award, congratulated.

Dr. Hassan and his management team, stating the good people of Ikorodu are happy with the current achievement of the hospital.

He explained that the few years of Dr. Hassan’s administration has positively turned-around the services of all the departments, sections and units of the hospital for excellent and adequate service delivery.

The former commissioner for Information in the state, therefore, charged the state government to consider the achievements and level attained by the General Hospital, Ikorodu, and upgrade it to a teaching hospital.

“With the unparalleled achievements of the management of the hospital and the level it has attained, it is high time the state government proclaim and elevate the hospital to become a Teaching Hospital, moreso, that Ikorodu is now a University town, with the newly established Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) main campus here in Ikorodu, he said.
