For bringing positive impact into Ikorodu General Hospital,patients, stakeholders commend Dr Taiwo Hassan

The General Hospital, Ikorodu, has assured its teeming public and residents across the lkorodu division of its resolve to continue to offer improved service delivery in all areas of its operations.
This was the main message of the management team of the hospital led by the unassuming and performing Medical Director, Dr. Taiwo Hassan, at this year’s Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the lkorodu Town Hall recently.
The meeting, which was an annual event, is being organised to enable the management team of the General hospital interact with the members of the public and get feedback on their service delivery.
The event had an impressive attendance of traditional rulers, notable eminent personalities and stakeholders across the lkorodu division, most of whom used the platform to pass their vote of confidence on the leadership of Dr Taiwo Hassan and also commended him for the tremendous transformation which the hospital has witnessed in the area of service delivery and infrastructural development, within the short space of his assumption of office a year ago.
Also, a new logo of the General hospital was officially unveiled at the event while a cake was also cut to commemorate this year’s edition of the stakeholders meeting.


Meanwhile, in the medical director’s welcome address, Dr Taiwo Hassan welcomed guests and residents to the meeting and informed them that suggestions, recommendations and criticisms from the last Stakeholders meeting had been collated and worked upon to improve service delivery, while assuring that criticisms, recommendations and suggestions gathered at this year’s meeting would equally be given priority. He urged the guests and others in attendance to unreservedly, and candidly express themselves within the possible limits.
He said that despite the rise in the cost of medical consumables and medical care due to the global economic downturn and increasing rate of inflation, the hospital’s services remain one of the cheapest of the secondary health facilities in Lagos State.
Dr Hassan explained that since his assumption, the hospital has been undergoing continuous transformation in terms of service delivery, infrastructure, human capital development and welfare as well as other areas of service and operations.


He thanked Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his cabinet, the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi and the Lagos State Health Service Commission their continued support and for creating the enabling environment for healthcare workers to discharge their duties.
He equally commended members of the management team and staff of the hospital for their support and hard work they have put in since he took over the mantle of leadership, while also thanking donors and partners of the hospital for their support.
Dr Hassan lamented the current reduction in the staff strength of the General hospital due to retirement and lure of greener pasture abroad by highly skilled and experienced staff but stated that the Health Service Commission is aware of the situation and is working tirelessly to redress it.
He assured that the hospital management team will continue rendering quality and improved service delivery to take healthcare to its zenith and appealed for partnership and support from the stakeholders and the public in this regard.

In her own remarks, Mrs Joan Oluyemi , who represented the Permanent Secretary, Health Service Commission, lauded the management team of the General hospital, Ikorodu, led by Dr Hassan for their commitment towards offering quality medical services to the people of lkorodu and its environs.
She said that the hospital has been repositioned for improved medical services and urged residents to continue patronizing the health facility.
She also urged patients and customers to always exercise patience when they visit the hospital to seek medical services and desist from pressuring the doctors and nurses for attention, stating that the health workers already have much on their hands.
Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya, the Commissioner, Lagos State Health Service Commission and former Medical Director of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, in his brief remarks, said that the hospital has been an Utopian health facility in the last eight years due to its quality medical services and added that that status has been solidly sustained b Dr Hassan, whom he described as an actualiser.
He stated that the current steady improvement in infrastructure and service delivery in the hospital would soon be attracting customers and clients from European countries and other parts of the world.
He urged those at the meeting to use the platform to offer constructive criticisms, suggestions and recommendations capable of enhancing further improved services in the hospital.
Oba Kabiru Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu, commended Dr. Hassan for the massive turnaround that the General hospital has witnessed in the last few years.
He called on the Lagos State government to upgrade the hospital to a teaching hospital considering the standard of its manpower and medical equipment while also urging the management team to have a master plan for space (vacant land) in the hospital as a way of securing it for future use and preventing encroachment.
Also, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu and a former Commissioner in the State, while corroborating Oba Shotobi’s statements, also said that General Hospital, Ikorodu, is good enough to be an annex of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and urged the state government to visit the hospital for evaluation.
He urged wealthy individuals and philanthropists to support the development of the General hospital while also urging pregnant women and other patients to always come to the hospital in good time for treatment and not when their conditions have worsened.
Engr. Olukayode Shoderu said that the hospital has witnessed fantastic progress in the last two years and commended Dr. Hassan and his team for a job well done.
He called for the provision of toilet in each of the floors so, that patients, customers, and visitors to the hospital won’t have to go outside to ease themselves.
Otunba Wole Odulate congratulated Dr. Hassan on his brilliant performance and said that the hospital has become the envy of other General hospitals in the state.
In the same vein, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Bashir Sotonwa, Sekunmade of Ipakodo, Chief Niyi Banjoko, Bobakeye of lkorodu, Dr Ibrahim Abdul-Raheem, Director, Health (Administrative), Lagos State Polytechnic, who represented the Rector of the institution and several other speakers equally commended Dr. Hassan and his management team for the tremendous improvement in the infrastructure and service delivery in the hospital and urged them to do more.
There was also a marathon interactive session during which several residents took turns to commend the Dr Hassan led management team on the timely, efficient and effective medical services rendered to them while on admission in the hospital and also gave recommendations, suggestions and complaints, which were responded to by Dr Hassan.
The meeting was brought to a close with vote of thanks and prayers by Doctor Femi Aletan, Deputy Medical Director, General Hospital, Ikorodu, and Dr Saliu Oseni, Director, Clinical and Training, General Hospital, Ikorodu, respectively.
