After years of hues and cries by residents along Ikorodu-Sagamu road and all users of this third most important route out of Lagos state, the federal government seems to be serious about rehabilitating/ reconstructing the more than 50 year old road.
This was the disclosure by the current Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina to residents of this zone at a forum tagged “I care for you”, which was a programme organized by Hon. Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu at the Lower House of the National Assembly.
Hon. Adesina confirmed to the gathering that the Federal government had written a letter to his office to beg Ikorodu people for the stress and inconveniences that had been going through over the years along the Sagamu-Ikorodu road.
According to the council boss, the letter from the federal government clearly showed that the project file for the rehabilitation of the road has been sent to the procurement unit and that anytime this is completed the file will be returned to the appropriate Minister for Works to commence.
Adesina went further to tell the audience that he was personally surprised by the tone of the letter which was humble and sincerely apologetic to the people along this road axis telling him to appeal to Ikorodu people not to be angry over their plight and the state of that road.
The government assured that everything possible will be done soon to repair that road before the end of this year.
Hon. Adesina attributed this letter to the relentless efforts of Hon. Babajimi Benson at Abuja, who had been pressurizing the federal government on the abandoned road. He assured the people that Hon. Benson would continue to push until the project is executed.
He, therefore, urged Ikorodu people to be patience until the promise is fulfilled.
