After about four months of his prosecution at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court, the sledge hammer of the law has eventually fell on Olamide Oyekola Yunusa M, a fake lawyer, whose story was published in our January 2017 edition after he was nabbed and arraigned by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu branch, on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
At the resumption of his trial in February, 2017, Justice (Mrs.) Abimbola Oshodi- Makanjuola of Magistrate Court 4, Ikorodu, Lagos State, convicted and sentenced Olamide to six months in prison after he was found guilty of the seven-count charge levelled against him.
Oriwu Sun learnt that at the initial stage of the case, the convict, with the support of his family members and allies, was scheming to frustrate and prevent his prosecution, but after seeing the overwhelming evidences levelled against him in court by the prosecuting team, he voluntarily pleaded guilty to three court charge out of the seven proferred against him.
The three count charge he pleaded to are that “you, Olamide Oyekola Yunusa M. and two other (now at large), sometimes in the month of September, 2016, at the Ikorodu Magistrate district, conspired to commit felony and obtain money under false pretense; thereby, committed an offence punishable under section 406 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.”
“That you, Olamide Oyekola Yunusa M. with two others (now at large), in the same place and at the same aforementioned district, did obtain the sum of N90,000 from the family of one Francis Soji, who had a case of malicious damage in Magistrate Court 3, under the pretense that you would use the money to perfect his bail, which you never did and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Nigeria, 2011.”
That you, Olamide Oyekola Yunusa M, in the same month and year at the aforementioned magistrate district, wore lawyer’s wig and gown and present yourself to be a lawyer in Ikorodu magistrate district which you are not; thereby, committed an offence punishable under section 78 subsection B of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
Olamide was convicted on all the three court charge and was given six (6) month sentence on each of the three charges.
He’s, however, expected to serve his sentence for the three count charge concurrently for six months starting from the day he was arrested.
It was also gathered that some of the victims of the convict were present in the court room during the judgement delivery and were happy about his conviction even though, they could not recoup their money from him.
