The former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Abdul Fatai Afolabi Adeyinka (Rtd), on Thursday, January 27, 2022, died at the age of 82.
His death occurred when the people of lkorodu were yet to come to term with the news of the demise of the former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Princess Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya whose death took place two days earlier.
Oriwu Sun gathered that Justice Adeyinka had been sick for a while and took his last breath in the early hours of Thursday in the arms of his loving wife who has been nursing him since the time he fell ill.
He was buried the same day according to Islamic rites at his lkorodu residence located at Radio area of Oke Ota-Ona, lkorodu.
His burial prayer (Janazah), which was held at the Oriwu Central Mosque, lkorodu, was led by the Chief Imam of the Mosque, Sheikh Yahya Oshoala Asamadani with Alfas from Ikorodu Central Mosque also in attendance.
Justice Adeyinka was a former Chairman of the Lagos State lndependent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and a member of the prestigious Oriwu Club, lkorodu, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees until his death.
He was a strong member of the Lagos Central Mosque and Oriwu Central Mosque, lkorodu, and his immense contributions to the development of lslam, particularly in the two mosques, would go down in history as legendary.
It is on record that the gigantic Oriwu Central Mosque, located adjacent Ikorodu garage roundabout, which construction took several decades to complete, was commissioned under the leadership of Justice Adeyinka as the Baba Adeen.
Since his death was announced, family members, associates, friends, Muslim jammah and sympathisers have been paying glowing tributes to the former Chief Judge with many describing him as a man who touched many lives with his simple and exemplary life style.
He will be greatly missed for his generosity and great acts of philanthropy within lkorodu and beyond.
Justice Adeyinka attended the Ereko Methodist School, Lagos, between1947 and 1954. He later procedded to the Anwar-Islam College, Agege, where he obtained his O’ levels between 1955 and1959. After his O’ levels, he proceeded to the United Kingdom and attended Leeds College of Commerce, England, 1961-1963, Holborn College of Law, London, 1964-1966, Woolich Polytechnic, London, 1967-1968. He came back to Nigeria and attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, 1968-1969.
He was a retired Judge of the High Court of Lagos.
He is survived by his wife and five children with great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed for his generosity and great acts of philanthropy within Ikorodu and beyond.
