Ikorodu people now seen to be confused and in a serious dilemma over how to deal with the threats posed by cultists in their environment following three days of killings by two cult gangs, who engaged themselves in battles.
For three consecutive days Sunday 6, March, Monday 7, and Tuesday 8, March, the rival gangs hunted to kill opponents causing panic in the community.
While Kabiyesi Shotobi and his traditional chiefs went into serious prayers over the issue and urged Baales, community leaders and parents of the cultists to exercise restraints and ensure safety of lives, the cult members were busy chasing one another and unleashing terror.
Some alleged that the tactical withdrawal of Onyabo vigilante group as a result of the detention of some of their leaders late last year, gave the cultists freedom to operate in the town, giving account of the three day shoot out. Mr. Lanre Olabinjo, the Chief Operation Officer of Onyabo Vigilante Group, told Oriwu Sun that a group of cultists (Aiye) stormed Isikalu area and tried to kill one Lateef Savage but the guy escaped the gunshots.
Onyabo personnel later took photographs of the building that had several gunshot marks.
Then, it is not certain if it is the same group or another that moved to Egigbona in search of one Moruf, popularly known as Murphy. It is alleged that Murphy is the one grooming the Aiye boys and is always prepared to give his boys money and other requirements. He is said to be a godfather to his group members.
Murphy was said to have been shot and killed in that Sunday operation. So also another guy called Sunshine, who was reportedly killed at Jaladugbo area the same Sunday. He is said to be an Eiye member. Thus, these two (Murphy and Sunshine) were killed same day by Aiye group. Stories have it that the gun the Aiye members used is the nail type, not cartridge type of weapon.
On Monday March 7, around 1:32p.m, according to Mr. Lanre, one guy went to Ladega to kill another with a gun. The Onyabo leaders said he is yet to verify the name of the deceased.
The same thing, he said repeated on Tuesday March 8, at about 11:12a.m; they came to storm Isikalu (the Savage group). They pursued one guy to the Shrine of Segun Lubu. They were said to have shot the guy in the arm and machetted him severally but he did not die. He is still at Ikorodu General Hospital.
It is believe that two powerful guys are the sponsors of these two groups; the police known them, but cannot arrest them.
Mr. Lanre recalled that a group stormed Ikorodu Town Hall that Sunday with different types of guns. Another source told Oriwu Sun that it could be the time Pasuma was performing his fuji music at the hall. Gun shots were heard around that vicinity, which ruffled many residents in that environment.
