Despite the backing of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) heavyweights in the persons of ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida, President Goodluck Jonathan and incumbent Senate President Bukola Saraki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the 2019 Presidential election, Muhammadu Buhari, floored his main opponent, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and over seventy (70) candidates in the hotly contested presidential election which stretched over ten (10) days.
Buhari’s APC did not only win the election with over fifteen (15) million votes to Atiku’s over Eleven (11) million votes, they defeated and disgraced vociferous and loquacious Obasanjo and Saraki in their own wards and silenced the ‘Maradona’ of Nigeria politics, General Babangida, in his own state and domain.
Buhari, who has already been declared the winner and presented with his certificate of return for a second term, polled a total of 15,191,847 as against Atiku’s 11,262,978 and gathered 25% of the votes in more than two-third of the states of the federation plus Abuja as required by the electoral act.
In the South-East and South-South and even in the North Central states where the PDP has strongholds, Buhari and the APC broke the jinx and shattered the PDP’s myth even in ex-President Jonathan’s home base – Bayelsa State.
Thus, proving Buhari’s acceptability across the nation.
