“We’re begging Gov Ambode to complete Powerline road as he promised last year during town hall meeting”

Last year, when Governor Ambode visited Ikorodu around June 2016 for the town hall meeting, he promised to bring infrastructure to the town this year.

Some of the promises, he has fulfilled, in this year’s budget like Igbe road construction, Itoikin-Ikorodu road dualization, completion of powerline, Sulaimon Shoderu road, etc.

However, what is surprising is that the completion of a by-pass in Shoderu road was not in the budget. Shortly after the publication of the budget, the resident of Sulaimon Shoderu road bombarded the Oriwu Sun office to ask why the Governor omitted their road in the budget.

As a result of this, Oriwu Sun sent reporters out to seek the opinions of the people on what they want the government to do. Below are their expressions.

MRS. FLORENCE AJAYI, Fashion Designer:

I have been living in this area for the past twelve years. We want the government to assist us by constructing the road for us. This is because those that were given the construction at first, failed to do it.

The dust is too much and I want the government to re-award the contract to honest contractors, who will do the work appropriately. Such people should be monitored by the government to ensure they do proper work. During the rainy season the road is worse.

  1. GOD’S POWER:

I pay tenement rate and tax, but this road has been in bad state for long. I frequent hospital every week because of the dusty environment. The state of the road before the construction was even better. It is supposed to serve as a short cut whenever there is traffic grid-lock at garage (Ikorodu bus stop) but it has not been serving its purpose.

We are begging the government to please re-award this contract to a new contractor and save us from unnecessary hardship and hassles associated with this road.

  1. SAHEED, Chairman, Association of Mechanics:

We are imploring the administration of Governor Ambode to please do something about the road. We heard that it was awarded to Eko-Akette during the administration of Fashola but the company abandoned the job.

We don’t know what transpired between the company and the government because the government should be able to question the company why it failed to perform. When this road was not graded, it was better off than now. I want the government to heed out call and re-award the contract.

  1. ABAYOMI ADEBANJO:

I have been working in this area for the past fifteen years. Everyone knows that this road is important. Motorists pass through this road from Sabo to Lagos road. If this road were in good condition, there won’t be traffic-gridlock at Ikorodu garage.

The failure of the government to monitor the company the construction was first awarded to made it possible for the company to abandon the project for the past three years is no development at all. We see the good jobs the government is doing in other parts of Ikorodu, but we don’t know why our story is different.

We all pay tenement rate and tax in this area but no dividend of democracy to show for it.

MRS. OLUYEMI OLOFIN, Trader:

I have been residing in this area for the past eight years. We are imploring the government to please finish the construction of this road that has been abandoned for the past three years. Erosion has wreaked a lot of havoc in this area. The road is not motorable. There is no evident of dividend of democracy evidence in this area at all, but if you look at other places, it is glaring that the government is working I have to cover my nose every time I am passing though because of the dust.
