At Estate Primary School inter-house sports festival, it was joy, fun, drama as wine house wins trophy… parents, teachers hail pupils

The Estate Primary School, located within the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Ikorodu, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, held its 21st Annual Inter-House Sports Competition amidst pomp and joy. The event, which took place at the sports ground of the school, recorded impressive attendance of parents and residents of the Estate, who had all come to witness the sporting event.

As early as 8am on that day, the pupils, who were looking sportive in the sport wears of their respective Sport Houses, along with their teachers, who were equally dressed in clean colour T-Shirts specially customized for the event, had arrived the school premises to tidy up every activity and arrangement to ensure a successful outing.

The five Sport Houses in the school are Vincent Adekoya House (Blue), Olaojo House (Green), Oyegoke House (White), Chief Adekunle A. Ashafa House (Yellow) and Princess Adegboyega House (Wine). By 12:44pm, the entire school premises had been filled up with a crowd of pupils, teachers, parents and invited guests. The event was declared open with a March Past, during which the five Houses filed out one after the other as they put up brilliant performances that only could be likened to a military parade.

This was followed by a Track Race, which was keenly contested by representatives of the five houses, whose impressive performances in the various race categories attracted standing ovation and thunderous applause from the crowd. The pupils also participated in other events like Egg and Spoon, Sack Race, Blind Race and Filling the Basket while they also entertained their parents and invited guests with Fashion Parade, Choreography, Miming Drama, Cultural Dance and Stage Drama.

Earlier, the Head teacher of the school, Mrs. L.O Olanrewaju, in her address, expressed her joy over the successful staging of the 21st Inter-House Sports Competition and thanked Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper; Engineer Jayeola and the Parents’ Forum of the school for their support in making the event a successful one. Mrs Olanrewaju, who was recently transferred to the school after the retirement of the former Head teacher, Mrs. Bola, described herself as the luckiest Head teacher of the school due to the several developments, which have taken place therein, notably among these, are the commissioning of a block of three classrooms, administrative offices and toilet facilities donated by Alhaji Monzor Olowosago and the ongoing construction of a block of fourteen classrooms, toilets and offices by the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Olanrewaju explained that with the newly commissioned block of classrooms and the one currently under construction, the school can now boast of standard facilities and conducive learning environment, which can compete with any private school around. She, therefore, urged parents in and outside the Estate to enroll their children in the school for quality education.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Olawale Olawunmi Victoria, the Assistant Head teacher, while speaking briefly with Oriwu Sun shortly after the event, thanked God for a hitch free Inter House Sport event. She disclosed that the event had been on and off for some time but expressed her gratitude that they were able to stage a successful one this year. She described the event as a veritable platform designed to bring out the various sporting talents in the pupils and expressed hope that all discovered talents at the event and subsequent editions would advance to become great athletes, who would become good ambassadors of the school, Lagos State and Nigeria in future.

Also in a brief reaction, Mr Tunde Okubote, the Chairman of the Parents’ Forum of the school rejoiced with the teachers and pupils for organizing a successful Inter House Sports Competition. He also expressed his joy over the current development taking place in the school, and particularly lauded Alhaji Monzor Olowosago for generously donating a block of classrooms to the school despite not having any child in the school. He prayed that God would continue to bless him.

At the end of the event, Princess Adegboyega House (Wine) emerged the overall winner of the sports competition with five gold, four silver and four bronze medals and a big trophy was presented to the House Captain as reward for their excellent performance. The duo of Olaoja House (Green) and Oyegoke House (White), which came second and third with five gold, four silver and two bronze medals and two gold, three silver and two bronze medals respectively, were equally presented trophies in appreciation of their efforts.
