Mrs. Anike Adekanye, the hardworking Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District II, is not only a woman of substance, but a mystery and wonderful teacher. A very diligent teacher who is unusually passionate about education and her students. This workaholic woman works till late in the night everyday and only God knows how she takes care of her husband and children.
Ever since she assumed office as the TG/PS of Education District II, schools under her have been performing excellently well, especially Oriwu College, Ikorodu, which have won many laurels for their academic performances.
During the last stakeholders’ forum organized by the Education District at the Lagos State Government Model College, Owutu, Ikorodu, Mrs. Adekanye was wonderful, her humane relations was fantastic as she mesmerized both the dignitaries and parents with her warm personality.
Even the Commissioner of Education in the State, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, recognized her hardwork and achievements in the service. Also at the event, a lot of people, including the Obas and parents commended her cheerfulness and her effort in taking more than one hundred (100) schools under her watch to the highest level.
In a short encounter with Oriwu Sun, Mrs. Adekanye commended the commitment and dedication of teachers who she said have been responsible for all the achievements recorded by schools in the District since her assumption of office over two years ago.
According to her, all the secondary schools in Ikorodu, Shomolu, Kosofe and other zones in the District II are doing well, courtesy of the tremendous support from traditional rulers and chiefs, parents, teachers and students.
She particularly praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his great vision and leadership quality which she said have turned around education sector in Lagos State.
“He is a visionary leader, he is a man that loves children and appreciates education. There is nothing that we need that he will not try his best to provide for the students, teachers and the community.
“He handles education in the state with passion and care and with the support of the Commissioner for Education, he has raised the bar of quality education in all schools in the state. He is a wonderful man, the father of the fatherless, voice of the voiceless and a man of his words.”
Despite being a top government official and an achiever per excellent, Mrs. Adekanye is a respectful and caring wife who appreciates the support and role her husband is playing in her life and career.
“To God be the glory. I have a wonderful God who provided for me a man that understands what it takes for a woman to be a leader in a particular work post. My husband is a very liberal minded person, a man with the fear of God and an exemplary family man whose attitude and support have given me the morale to do my do.”
Though, very accommodating and cheerful, Mrs. Adekanye abhors lies and cheating. She likes singing, dancing and praying, while her best food is pounded yam with Egusi (melon) vegetable soup.
While we commend her excellent performance and achievements, we wish her greater feats in office.
Oriwu Model College achievements under Adekanye
Students of Oriwu College Senior Model College, Ikorodu, the premier college in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, is not resting on its oars as the school has continued with its excellence performances in academics and other activities.
Oriwu College performances in the recent time have culminated into the school winning the Presidential Award as the Best Public School in Nigeria in 2020 and Presidential Excellence Award for Best School Administrator in Nigeria in 2015 under the immediate past Principal of the school.
But the current Principal, Mr. Akeem Bello, a Director in the Ministry of Education, is not in any way lowering the standard, as the school continues to build on its academic excellence since his emergence in September, 2020.
The school, recently won 2022 Pascal Dike Public Speaking Competition in Lagos State, in a statement on Tuesday, unveiled its records of excellent achievements in the past 12 months.

According to the statement posted on the school’s social media handle and titled, ‘The Key Achievements In the Past Twelve (12) Months’, the College, earlier this year, won the 1st position in the Lagos State 2022 Spelling Bee Competition, which qualified it to produce the 2022 One-Day-Governor.
The school in 2022 produced LASMUN 2022 – UN Secretary-General, 2022 Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture International Day of Forest (Essay Competition Best Overall) and 1ST Position 2022 ANCOPSS Schools Debate Competition.
Oriwu College also emerged second position, Education District II Cultural Festival Cooking Competition 2022.
Also this year, the Principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, also emerged 2022 African Outstanding Principal of the Year.
