Ambode fulfils promise; awards contracts for Ijede-Igbe, Isawo-Arepo-Ibadan express roads…Work starts April… houses maybe demolished

Barring all odds, the much talked about dilapidated Igbe road leading to Ijede would witness commencement of work on the project in April.

Sources close to Alausa told Oriwu Sun that Governor Ambode, who is known for keeping his promises, awarded the contract not only for Igbe road leading to Ijede but also to Agric, Isawo and Arepo leading to Lagos – Ibadan Express road.

It would be recalled that last June, during the Town Hall Meeting in Ikorodu, Ambode promised the residents along Igbe – Ijede axis that he would accommodate the two roads and other roads in Ikorodu into this year’s budget.

Informed sources at Alausa told Oriwu Sun that the contractor was ready to move to site last March but the government asked him to wait until group discussion with the stakeholders was held on March 30 because many houses would be demolished to give way for the road.

The Governor decided to tow this line to avoid litigations from landlords. However, sources said that compensation would be given to owners of demolished houses whether there is approval plan or not.

According to experts, the two roads would gulp about N70billion. It would be recalled that residents of the area had suffered hardships, especially during the  rainy season. It is just like Ibeshe road, which suffered the same fate until Governor Fashola answered their call after many years of waiting.

However, the good thing is that before the end of this year, the residents of that axis and the landlords would have great relief after the completion of the projects. Also, the landlords would have great value for their houses because the price would go up after the face-lift.

…Sulaimon Shoderu (Powerline road) residents may wait till next year

Residents of Powerline along Sulaiman Shoderu road, whose road had been abandoned for the past three years, would have to wait till next year for the completion of the project.

Sources in Alausa told Oriwu Sun that it was not possible for the Governor to accommodate the project this year because of the many roads slated for Ikorodu division.

He has, however, promised that the road, which was abandoned by the contractor handling it, MR. FUAD OKI, recently sacked by the Governor as the Director General, Lagos Safety Commission, would be attended to next year.

Mr. Fuad Oki, an APC chieftain was a bosom friend of former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, (SAN). He was initially said to have boasted that he would complete the road project in nine months but  later changed the tune, claiming that he wasn’t given money.

Today, residents of that area, in an interview with Oriwu Sun, had begged the Governor to carry out a palliative measure on the road to make it motorable pending the time it would be completed next year.
