AGBEDE UNDER SIEGE BY CULTISTS, CDA OFFICIAL STILL MISSING AFTER JULY ATTACK, RESIDENTS APPEAL FOR HELP

Residents of Agbede area in Ikorodu, Lagos State, have expressed worries over the activities of cultists in their domain for the past two years. It was not a rosy moment for the landlords and their tenants because many of them have been forced to flee the area over death threats to them and family members.

According to a resident, Mr. Akanji Olaoni, who spoke to Oriwu Sun, the crisis started in November 2014 when two notorious deadly cult groups, Eiye and Aye, had a clash that led to the death of some innocent people.

He stressed that the clash between both groups called for immediate action which made the Ifesowapo Community Development Association (CDA) of the area to hire the service of the popular vigilante group called Onyabo (meaning strike against crime) to arrest the situation.

Mr. Olaoni said the effort of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Community Development Association (CDA), Mr. Owoade Akeem, a social worker who is involved in charity, youth empowerment and hosting of football tournaments in Lagos State, in disclosing the hideout of the cultists made him their target.

He further explained that the cultists stormed the residence of Mr.  Akeem on July 16, 2016, but the PRO was lucky to have members of Onyabo vigilante group, led by Mr. Rafiu Jimoh (a.k.a Elele), around.

According to him, Mr. Akeem was saved but Mr. Jimoh was unlucky as he was seriously injured by the cultists.

Mr. Olaoni added that the matter was reported to the police while a suspect was also arrested for interrogation.

“Since then, we have not known the where about of Mr. Owoade Akeem,” Mr. Olaoni said.

He, however, appealed to the State Government to come to their rescue as the cultists still pose serious threat to their lives.
