The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Saturday, September 2, 2017, showed his love for all Muslims, when he organized celebration centres across the twenty Local Government Areas in Lagos State to commemorate the 2017 Eid-El-Kabir.
During his address, the Governor rejoiced with the entire Muslim Ummah in Lagos on the celebration of another Eid-El-Kabir. According to him the annual celebration signifies the triumph of faith and the assurance that Almighty Allah would always make a way for those who have absolute trust in His grace.
Ambode said it was a day of sacrifice in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s faith in Allah. He said that with the celebration, there was a great lesson for all Lagosians, especially as the state aspires to achieve the Lagos of our dream. The Governor assured that with hope and faith, God can turn a dream to reality, stating that everybody must play their part just as Prophet Ibrahim did.nHe also assured all residents that his administration remains committed to the welfare and well-being of all citizens irrespective of their locations within the state without prejudice to ethnic, religious and socio-economic background.
Speaking further, the Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, Hon. Rotimi Ogunleye, said, “We would ensure that the dividend of good governance is evenly and fairly distributed in line with our pledge not to leave any part of the state behind. I also thank all Lagosians for showing absolute faith in our ability to continue to deliver on our electoral mandate, which you demonstrated by overwhelmingly voting for our party, The All Progressive Congress (APC), during the just concluded Local Government election.”
In his welcome address earlier, the Lagos state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Muslim Folami, represented by Mr. Oluyomi Amoye, disclosed that the Eid-El-Kabir was being celebrated simultaneously across all the Twenty Local Government Areas of the State. Folami said this was in accordance with the State’s vision of inclusive governance. He thanked Ambode’s family for the initiative, for identifying with Muslims and for spreading the centres of celebration to all the nook and crannies of the State.
In his words, “It is gratifying to note that the administration of His Excellency, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has been a very impactful one that is focused on developmental programmes that would benefit all citizens. I, therefore, urge you all to support and participate in the administration’s policies and programmes.”
The former Deputy Governor of the State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye; former Secretary to the State Government, Asiwaju Bashorun; Council Chairmen in Ikorodu division; Iyaloja-General, Taofikat Allison, and others, showered encomiums on Governor Ambode and his entire household. They thanked him for organizing such event even though he is a Christian.
The event in Ikorodu, which was held at the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area Secretariat, featured Qu’ran Quiz competition, presentation of gifts, prayers for the Governor, his family and Lagos State. Guests were also lavishly served with assorted foods and drinks.
Those at the event were, the representatives of the Chief Imam of Ikorodu Central Mosque and Chief Imam of Oriwu Central Mosque; Chief Imam, Ikorodu West, Alhaji Mushafaudeen Aridegbe; Imam, Isele Mosque, Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Alade Abiodun.
