The pupils of Aga Primary school in Ikorodu recently received donation of educational materials to their school by Distance Relatives an International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in the United States of America.
The donation was facilitated by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, then Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diasporal Affairs and a three term representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
The event took place between April 14 and 15, 2019 at the school premises and was witnessed by several stakeholders in Ikorodu Education Sector, among who were Otunba Saheed Ibikunle, former Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government and former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) on Education Management and Alhaja Abiodun Oguniyi, Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu. Education items like exercise books, pens, pencils, crayons, school bags, trainers, among others, were distributed.
Also at the event, Best pupils of Aga Primary School, Miss Motunromobi Afolayan, was presented with a Laptop computer and other educational materials in honour of her academic brilliance, while the donors encouraged her to make good use of the Laptop in other to enable her achieve her dream of becoming a medical doctor, with the pledge that they would be monitoring her educational a progress.
The organization also pledged to make the donation a continuous exercise.
Meanwhile, Hon. Erewa, in her address at the event, challenged the pupils to work hard in order to become successful in life.
“Coming here today reminded me of the fact that I was once like you. Right now, I am seeing myself in you.”
“You can be whatever you want to be if you study and work hard.”
“I have some people here today all the way from America. God has blessed them and they are in turn giving back to the society by donating some items to you and your school.”
Also, the trio of Mr. William Asiedu, Mr. Giliord Nana and Mr. Enoch Ofori, who represented the organsation at the event, took their turns to address the pupils.
First to speak was Mr. Asiedu, who stated that their presence in the school was to encourage and empower the pupils.
“We are here to encourage and empower you all with our donations.”
“We want you to keep going and studying so that you can be whoever you want to be in life.”
Also, Mr. Nana, who in his address disclosed that he grew up in Ghana before moving to the United States of America, stated that:
“I can see a lot in you guys and we are here to encourage you to maximize your potentials.”
“I started like you guys and today, here we are. I want you to follow your dreams.”
In his own address, Mr. Ofori charged the pupils to pray hard, work hard and study hard in order to come out in flying colours so that they can make their parent happy in future.
Miss Motunromobi Afolayan, in a brief response on behalf of the pupils of the school, thanked Distance Relatives Organisation for the donation of the educational materials and promised that they will make judicious use of the items to enhance their educational success.
