Afolabi Amusa bags LGEA Executive Secretary job after Oba Igbogbo’s intervention

In the last edition of the Oriwu Sun Newspaper for the month of March 2020, we reported about the power tussle over the post of the Local Government Education Executive Secretary for Ikorodu Division, a position which caused discord between two influential parties in Ikorodu Division.
The bitter rivalry, which ensued between two powerful parties, Chief Kaoli Olusanya and his allies (including Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade) who favoured Mr. Yekini Aregbesola as against the faction of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun, who supported the candidature of Mr. Afolabi Amusa, has been resolved amicably.
Report reaching Oriwu Sun this time is that the issue has been resolved cordially and both parties have agreed on a unified candidate for the post of the Executive Secretary for the Ikorodu Division.
The resolution is that Mr. Afolabi Amusa be appointed the Local Government Education Executive Secretary. This was made possible after the prompt intervention of His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, who invited Chief Kaoli Olusanya to plead with him over the matter.
His royal majesty’s move was followed by the reaction of the Lagos SUBEB boss, Hon. Alawiye-King who asked the warring factions to resolve their differences and agree on a unified candidate for the vacant post. It was reported that after receiving two names for the post from the two political rivals in Ikorodu, the LASUBEB chairman, Hon. Alawiye and his board directed the parties to amend their differences before they could name the man for the job. Oba Semiudeen Kasali in his wisdom intervened to save the situation from getting out of hand by inviting Chief Kaoli Olusanya and pleaded with him to lay low his position for Afolabi Amusa to assume the vacant position.
Though, it was reported that the Alaiyeluwa had carefully examined Afolabi Amusa and found him qualified for the job before giving him support, sources affirmed that Amusa was the preferred candidate after a competent panel made up of two former Heads of Service Babatunde Rotinwa and Adesegun Ogunlewe recommended that Amusa is the most suitable candidate for the job.
However, one of those in the SOB Agunbiade’s faction opined that Kaoli Olusanya should not have accepted the deal of the Oba Kasali without consulting SOB. Others have countered this opinion by believing that Kaoli is SOB’s political benefactor and could made decision on the latter’s behalf, especially when SOB has been out of the country on medical trip.
It is believe by this group that such pressing matter cannot wait in a time like this when urgent decision has to be made.
A recent letter written to the SUBEB chairman has shown that the process of ratifying Amusa as the preferred candidate was a concerted one. The letter, which was dated March 23, 2020, was written by Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun and addressed to the chairman. In the impassioned letter, Bashorun made a detailed explanation of why Afolabi Amusa should be given the mandate. He stated the procedure for constituting the interview panel and how Amusa was unanimously endorsed by the panel and ratified by the six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division. In the ratings of the fourteen candidates who applied for the job of the education Executive Secretary for Ikorodu division, Mr. Afolabi Amusa topped the list with a total point of 88% while Mr. Yekini Aregbesola came fourth with a total score of 71%.
Also in the impassioned letter, Bashorun urged the chairman to accept the candidate which is most qualified and has the overwhelming support- which is, Mr. Afolabi Amusa.
As things are at the moment, reliable sources have confided in Oriwu Sun that Afolabi Amusa’s name has been received by the SUBEB board members and will soon be announced as the Local Government Executive Education Secretary for Ikorodu Division.
