The new Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Abdul-Lateef Ladega, performed his first official duty on Monday, August 4, 2025, with the swearing-in and proclamation of the elected members of the newly constituted legislative arm of the council council.
The event, which was held at the council Secretariat hall, was well attended by party leaders and members, council staff, family members of the new councilors, guests and residents.
While swearing-in the lawmakers, Prince Ladega, congratulated them on their election.
He emphasized the importance of unity between the two arms of government and the people the are representing, stating that there’s need for a good relationship with the people, adding that unity is the number one thing that drives every government.

The Chairman also highlighted the achievements of his administration within the first week in office, including the successful attraction of two Federal Government Agencies, establishment of various initiatives which include the construction of a standard primary healthcare center, provision of equipment and vocational training for youths and women, and convening security meeting with security agencies and stakeholders.
The Chairman extended his gratitude to party members, community leaders, and the people of Ikorodu, for their overwhelming support for his emergence, and promised to repay their trust by delivering excellent and impactful governance.

Immediately after their inauguration, the councillors held their first plenary session behind close doors, during which they elected their principal officers.
At the end of the election, Hon. Wasiu Shotomiwa, who represents Ward D, and was the Majority leader in the last dispensation, emerged as the Leader of the Legislative Arm of the council.
Others officers elected are Hon. Mutiat Fatuga, Deputy Leader, Hon. Idris Shokunbi, Majority Leader, and Hon. Oluwakemi Buraimoh, Chief Whip.
In his acceptance speech, the new leader of the lkorodu Legislative Arm, Hon. Shotomiwa emphasized the importance of collaboration between the legislative and executive arms, stating that the councillors will work hand-in-hand with the Executive Chairman, to deliver dividends of democracy to the people, while noting that the legislative arm’s primary objective is to make laws and support the chairman in achieving his goals.

He, therefore, expressed commitment to working together with the Executive arm to ensure effective governance and delivery of services to the people of Ikorodu Local Government.
He emphasised the priorities of the legislative arm which, according to him, is to legislate, make bylaws, and conduct oversight functions.
In her brief remarks, the immediate past Vice Chairman of the council, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, described the new administration as a ‘Fortified Hope’ brought about by ‘Renewed Hope’.
According to her, the new administration is all about delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ikorodu.
“The people have voted, and here we are. Chairman, Vice Chairman, Councillors. Everybody is energized to deliver and put more smiles on the faces of the good people of Ikorodu.”
She praised the Chairman, describing him as energetic, passionate, empathetic, and youthful, and expressed optimism that his administration would excel.
She also assured that best hands are the helms of affairs in the council.
